dark emotional mysterious sad slow-paced

This book reminds me of that episode where Rick Sanchez takes Morty Smith to this intergalactic arcade and he plays this game called "Roy" where he basically lives an entire lifetime before dying. That's what this book is you don't just read it you experience it. This story feels like an all encompassing memoir by someone who doesn't exist. Melding the sinister with the super natural and an adroit eye for detail that breathes to life an awful loss of religion and aging. What makes this book phenomenal is how it revels in the mundane the same way we all do,you don't notice what's going on until it's passed and it's too late to change. An anchoring motif is how we're a victim to ourselves, how well we can self inflict it. This is genuinely something important that everyone should experience at least once irrespective of their taste in genre or Stephen kings work.

Influences include Lovecraft, Mary Shelley, and Flannery O'Connor, but the voice is pure Stephen King.

A really great original story which was just slightly too drawn out for me. Nothing really surprised me or scared me because it’s so easy to predict the endgame

Revival spent a long long time in the land of near-realism before turning Lovecraftian. I think the early part of the book could be considered a bit dull to the reader looking for quick horror, but the carefully built reality (with just hints, here and there, of something supernatural) makes the overall story more effective. While this is not my favorite Stephen King novel, I did really enjoy it.

Wasn't a huge fan of this overall, but given that almost every other review of this that I've seen is 5 star, maybe I just read it wrong?
Found it very hard to get into, the first hundred or so pages move at a legitimate snail's pace and the pacing never really picks up until the climax of the novel, which is over almost too quickly.
Lots of time jumps, which I'm not really a fan of but I guess this particular plot wouldn't have worked without them.
It's my own fault for not researching properly before I picked it up but the religious references were nauseating.
A lot of the references and terminology used in relation the whole energy/electricity thing went right over my head - clearly not my area of expertise.
Didn't really get the point of it at all to be honest, which is a shame cause it's an interesting plotline at least.
