I LOVE the series and this book in particular. It's my favorite as of right now, maybe because I  understand the story and the magic system better. And I aporeciate the convolutedness of the plot. This is how a high fantasy should be.
I adore the dynamics between characters and the writing. (i just wished i could like janel more😭)

Ok that was fucking awesome.
Massive improvement over book 2.

Ah Tereath...my poor baby... Im very glad he got POVs this time around.

Khirin, Khirin...i love the goofy idiot.

Janel is worming up to me. I still think she's a very whiney character. But at leat i can see why she's so special.

And Thurvishar is just adorable all around. But id have liked more focus on him.

I could not care less about Serena and especially Talea but their parts finally became somewhat important later on.

That end tho...
Very curious...

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I think I was expecting this to be a trilogy - spoiler alert! It’s not!

AGHHHHHHH that ending!!!!! This series is not for the feint of heart. It is full of detail and lore and can sometimes be difficult to remember who has lived which lives. But oh man is the plot thick and the characters loveable as hell.

This is not going to be a super formal review and I will probably just be all over the place as I try to explain just how much I loved this book…. But here goes!

Each book just keeps getting better and better. This one I especially loved because of how much the gods, and dragons were involved. I always love stories that have meddling gods and this one takes the cake considering a lot of these gods have children that they are supporting on one side or another but are still deeply flawed to the point where you start to see the humanity they once had. The descriptions of the gods, the abilities they possess and the names chosen…. Omg I just loved every bit of it. The thing about these gods is yes they were once human so they have a reason to fight for the side they are fighting for; whether it be to save their race or to help eliminate another force. But I really enjoyed that they weren’t all knowing and still could be surprised by things happening in the story.

Again I think this one unlike the first one, will be a lot easier for people to follow and seems to be a lot more linear, for the most part. I also really love the diversity in this story like different skin colors, and sexualities and the fact that gender is not so black and white; like Janel considers herself a stallion even though she is female because it is more about how they carry themselves and how they act, rather than what genitalia they have. I think that’s such a cool idea

Also the gaeshe for the dragons each possessing their own unique abilities is such a cool touch. It gives ordinary mortal humans the ability to contend with gods and dragons and helps even the playing field. Plus they have such cool abilities (I’m still biased to the name of all things)

Overall this is shaping up to be in line with my all time favorite fantasy series, the faithful and the fallen and am looking forward to reading the two remaining books

What a master Lyons has become,
I truly think this is the best book in the series so far!

In the beginning of this one, Kirhin and company are sent on a rather simple mission- remind king Kelanis of the Manol Vane to perform the Ritual Of the Night so that Vol Karoth is locked away once more. But, it seems the king and other factions are not so easy to even reach let alone persuade. Indeed, he's eager to deal out death sentences without a blink and the company finds themselves in some very risky situations.

What I liked particularly in this book was the fact that it's becoming even clearer no side be it Relos Var or the Gods are good or bad or totally right about decision to be made. Certain actions can't be reversed and now everyone must decide whether they're willing to sacrifice and accept a different vantage point. The scope got even bigger in this book, but there were still some great quirky moments including the best imaginative feast ever and a deity that has to do with gastronomic movements. Character flashbacks were sometimes a bit much, but Lyons thereafter provided more information and by the end we're of course left with another cliff hanger!

I highly recommend this book and this series thus far in my opinion matches if not surpasses martin's GOT with it's complexity, character development and worldbuilding.
