I really liked this book, it really did well with the integration of Greek mythology and the modern setting. Persephone is a nice character and has good development in the story and Hades charm and charisma is amazing. I will not lie, there is smut and if you are not into that sort of thing, you should not read this book. I do recommend it though if you love Greek mythology.
*Spoiler Alert*:
Okay, I have so many questions about this book. One, who is Persephone's father? In the original tale, Zeus is her father but this cannot happen in this book because Hades is Zeus' brother. And if that fact is still true to the storyline, I cannot read anymore! Two, if she is the Goddess of Spring, how do her powers correspond to black vines? Has she had a link to Hades since her birth? I need more clarification, but maybe I read this too fast to see it. Three, will she be trapped for six months out of the year like the original tale?
Hades and Persephone's attraction seems real and you do root for them in the book. Sure, Hades is possessive, but not too much for it to become stalker level. I really hated how he didn't think much of Persephone's jealousy of Minthe but gets jealous of her with literally every guy she interacts. The only thing good that comes out of this is when Adonis spikes her drink and try's to assault her, he saves her. Also, the whole thing with Aphrodite gave me After vibes with the betting. I hated it. I still think that Persephone should have went home and let Hades think about what he has done, but I'll role with it for the time being.
It wasn't as smutty as I thought it would be, but honestly it made it better. I rarely pick up adult romance fantasy novels because of this fact. Don't get me wrong, some smut is okay. But too much makes the romance less agreeable to me.
I'm really excited to start the next book to see where we are going with this relationship, and the relationship with the other Gods now that she is in a public relationship with Hades, being the proclaimed Goddess of Spring, and maybe finding out who her dad is? Please don't let it be Zeus!

It's fine. Nothing I'm yearning to continue. I don't like 3rd act problems but the resolution was okay. I bought the 6th (?) book in the series on accident, I'm honestly not sure if I'll continue the series though.
fast-paced
I was excited for this modernized version of Hades and Persephone. Unfortunately it's mostly just weirdly timed sex scenes with a minimal plot. The writing is so surface level and immature that it's impossible to feel anything about the characters. Stick with Lore Olympus for a much better retelling with a bonus of beautiful art.
If you want a quick, spicy read, this book will deliver on that. I love the Hades-Persephone story, so I personally found it enjoyable to be immersed in that world. The writing was lacking at some points but, also, are we really looking for elegant writing in a book like this?
okay, i’m an absolute sucker for hades and persephone retellings and this was no different. the characters were on the whole incredibly well written, the narrative was pretty well done and i loved the romance development. i liked the steady development of the plot and also really liked the writing style though i can’t place why. a lot of the time, i didn’t really want to put the book down at all.
the world building wasn’t awful, did leave room for improvement but on the whole not awful. i had a good sense of what the mortal world looked like, but there were A LOT of settings which i think gets abit confusing. the underworld was really well done, especially the areas of tarturus and asphodel (i suppose it would have to be well done though with it being one of the main settings)
i absolutely LOVED the character of hecate, i hope to see her tons over the course of the next few books. her, lex and sybil are my girls, protect them at all costs. hades’s development was nicely drawn out too, with the reader (and persephone too) learning little bits about him just often enough to keep us interested and intrigued (not that i wasn’t, but jt was definitely better for the information to be dropped in little segments rather than all at once like some books do) i’m quite happy that books 2, 4 and 6 of this series are in his perspective because i would definitely love to see that.
the villains were so well done. i hated them. despised them. every time they entered a scene i wanted to hit them. i do LOVE a well written villain. demeter especially wound me tf up (do i have a bit of a complex mother daughter relationship too which i think worsened my dislike of her? yes)
i do have some critiques though, starting with how naive and clueless persephone is. i love my girl, i do, but several times in the narrative she made such poor choices even knowing they were wrong or misinformed. she literally stopped speaking to someone because she wouldn’t hear them out (i mean she definitely needs therapy which helps her case a little but still, we know how i feel about the miscommunication trope) i was also a little disappointed by the way in which (slight spoiler) persephone had to regain her powers. it seemed a bit…eh???? very odd (if you read it/have read it, you’ll know what i mean)
okay so this retelling is particularly smutty, which you know, slay, HOWEVER in this book it felt a little bit forced in at times? like there were some scenes that were nice and really well written and enjoyable and BANG sex. sometimes i got whip lash.
right, my boy cerberus lowkey disappeared near the end? he and persephone went somewhere and you only hear of persephone and hades leaving. WHERE IS CERBERUS? justice for my boy.
basically, i’d recommend this book, but it did only just scrape making it into the 4 star category.
