Trigger warning for heavy heavy themes of suicide and suicidal ideation.

I love the concept of this book: aliens abduct a depressed teenager and tell him he has the power to push a button and prevent the end of the world. The themes are also very moving; how do we reconcile being a tiny speck in the universe, a fraction of a second in the endless bounds of time? Do we matter? Does anything matter?

Really lovely conclusion to this book that resolves the weight and emotion of the narrative. I recommend!!!!

Henry deals with some really heavy stuff here, and the author tells his story with a whole lot of honesty and grace. Really character driven, but it kept me engaged throughout!

Wonderful but depressing. The aliens are like an allegory for the main character’s suicidal tendencies as he tries to justify ‘pressing the button’ or, more simply, not killing himself throughout the story.

Life Changing, Epic, Heartbreaking, Raw

I just finished the book and I have no words to give a cohesive review, but I’m going to be thinking about this book for a long time. I’ve never read anything quite like it and I felt something every second. It’s challenging, rewarding, funny, heartbreaking, and so real. I want to ramble on but I won’t, just read it and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Just as an aside, the line “she was grit in Time’s teeth and I loved her for it” is one of my favorite sentences of all time.
