Raw and personal. Yes, JVN, we do still love you after knowing everything.
Round up to 4 1/2. Such an open, raw story, full of humor and no small amount of sorrow. Inspiring, amusing, challenging... I got in an extra half mile on my morning walk, just to be able to listen a little longer!
I loved reading this book. You could hear JVN's voice in all of his writing. He has such an amazing story and serves as an example of grit and not letting your worst moments define who you are.
Before reading this book I only knew a little about him from watching a few episodes of Queer Eye and had read that he discloses he is HIV positive. I didn't know he was addicted to drugs, worked as a prostitute and about how he found his way to be on Queer Eye. He has a great story to tell and he does a wonderful job telling that story

This is one you need on Audible instead of reading yourself.
“We are all a beautiful jumble of layers, parts, and mixtures of experiences, but my most important part, and in my opinion everyone’s most valuable part, is the one that chooses self-love instead of self-harm in the grand sweeping ways but also the little ways every single day.” ~JVN
Writing this memoir was an act of pure courage. Loved him before I read it. Love him more now.
And no, he’s not a writer. He never claims to be a writer. He’s a human being with a compelling and inspiring story.

It was everything and more. I recommend this book to any JVN fan, and really anyone looking to learn and explore what accepting oneself for your past, present, success, and flaws looks like. JVN really lays their cards on the table showing who they are and their best and worst, and that recovery and self-acceptance is a lifelong journey. A++
