My bar was pretty low for this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It addresses tough roping’s and even made me cry! Highly recommend the audio book because he reads it.

I ended this book with my chin up, standing 2” taller thanks to JVN’s Beyoncé baby realness.

JVN is a human so different from anyone I’ve ever known in my life. I’m thankful to have had a peek into his life - I think it makes me a better neighbor. But more importantly, it makes me even more proud and genuinely happy for all the success he’s had recently. I hope you get to keep living out your dreams, queen. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I’m in your corner and rooting for your success and happiness.

For readers- I recommend listening audible. I don’t know how JVN’s voice translates to the written page, but the audiobook is narrated by him and is just

I expected to like this, but not to love it. I love JVN, and I honestly think listening to this book with them as the narrator made it five stars for me. I mean, he reads a section in the voice of Moira Rose? Helloooo!!

I laughed out loud numerous times (which I kind of expected) but there were so many times where this book punched me in the face and brought me to tears (sometimes in the grocery store where it looked like I was crying over cheese selection). JVN’s raw look at addiction, loss and living with HIV is so powerful but didn’t feel bleak when told in their voice.

Highly recommend.

You HAVE to listen to this book. Hearing it in JVN’s voice makes it such an experience and JVN is such a great storyteller and so animated! I couldn’t put it down! It only took me two days to get through listening to the whole book!

This is the kind of book where I constantly found myself putting it down and telling my partner all about it. I did not expect to love it as much as I did as I am not a huge fan of memoirs, but I really really loved it. JVN That's a wonderful job of recapping his life in a way that is meaningful and charming. I love him more after reading this.

If you've watched Queer Eye, you know Jonathan Van Ness is the Queen of positivity and self-love. In his memoir, he explores events in his life that have shaped him into the gorgeous person he is today. (If you read this, you'll be saying "gorgeous" a lot, honey. Trust me.) In the beginning, Jonathan poses the question:

So that's the question that I keep coming back to. Would you love me if you saw me in a bad moment? Would you love me if I'm momentarily Grumps McGee about everybody taking forever? Would you love me if you saw all my parts?

This book is both light and heavy. We learn a lot about Jonathan's love of gymnastics and ice skating (including a lot of detail on his made up balance beam routine). But Jonathan explores tough topics including a sexual abuse trauma when he was very young, addictions, and losing his step-father to cancer. I appreciated his openness to discuss these tough topics and truly show all sides of himself in this memoir that make up the Jonathan we see on TV.

I listened to this one, and it was great having Jonathan tell his story in his voice. I'm not sure if it would read on the page as well as it did when I listened. One of the funniest parts for me was listening to Jonathan read his essay on the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal (written when he was 11), and hear his chuckles and bits of commentary as he read.

Jonathan's story is a jumble of funny moments, family love, messing up, finding his path, hard work, and learning to love himself through everything.

I asked you at the beginning of the book, would you still love me if you knew everything about me? I hope that you do. But even more, I hope sharing my story encourages people to be more aware and compassionate on issues that may not directly affect them and spread that compassion to more people who need it.
