Loved this. As a queer baseball fan (Aroace and agender Cardinals fan) reading this was the perfect mix of focus on baseball and the romance. If you do not care about baseball this may not be as enjoyable but as someone who loves baseball, loved it.

Yes yes yes, this was so well crafted and so cute. I love love love the main character and his boyfriend and the hope and want between the words that are hard to reach for and sometimes the scariest thing that one has to do because it’s so internal and encompasses not just your own actions but so many things out of one’s control. Just absolutely LOVED it. Do I know anything about baseball? No but that did not deter me from absolutely finding this just so well written and so so lovely. To sum up: Ahhh such well crafted cuteness with characters I feel so tender and protective towards

I have read other gay sporty books where the sport seemed kind of incidental. Not the case here. Lots, and lots, of baseball, which I dngaf about. Could have been better with a HEAVY edit.

This book is full of hope (and a deep love of Oregon and baseball), but it’s the hope that has stuck with me after I finished it. I don’t know if Gene would be able to play baseball period in today’s America, let alone professionally, and it was so nice to dive into a world where that was possible. A world that rewards hard work and talent and optimism and love of the game and unabashedly being true to who you are. A world that lets Luis bring his emotional support dog on road trips and into the bullpen.

And, of course, the relationship that rekindles and repairs and flourishes between Gene and Luis is so sweet and exactly what I needed in my life right now.

If you’re into sports romances at all, I highly recommend this one.
