These 2 were lovely.

If you love the work E.L. Massey and Cat Sebastian, you should really like this. It's just a super sweet romance with all the trans joy and I love them. It was a little excessively fluffy for me but we definitely need this type of book in the world. Especially now

I really really don’t like baseball apparently

this was cute.
i liked mostly the realism as to how non-linear a baseball player’s journey is—even a successful one.

my biggest gripes with this book are ultimately small and have more to do with my own internalized problems and preferences and i can admit that and also accept that sharing them wouldn’t be productive from a critique standpoint.

i liked the side characters (at least, those who get any meaningful time on page. i have zero connection to the kyles or whoever ross and the other guy are, as name mentions are basically the extent of their inclusion in this novel) and VINCE was especially powerful especially when illustrating the difficulties a professional sports career can pose toward someone who appears to meet society’s standards.

the enemies/rivals-to-lovers thing that this book attempted in the first portion was pretty half baked and dissolved very quickly, but i enjoyed gene and luis’ relationship outside of that. i would have LOVED some more time spent with gene’s family to explore their dynamic.

i still hate the cover though sorry

I'm so glad I read this when I needed it most and not when I wanted to read it. That made Gene and Luis's story even more meaningful.

I loved that Gene was who he was and was not afraid to share that with the general public as a whole as well as with his teammates. I also really enjoyed that there was disability representation with his captains husband who was deaf. It was very heartwarming to know that Gene learned so he could chat with him on his own. It was also nice to see mental health representation with Luis and his accident.

This felt like a queer and open version of the movie Major League. I really enjoyed how the team was so accepting of Gene in both college and with his minor league team. Luis was such a breath of fresh air in working through his anxiety and depression and wanting to just make it through things including his emotions.

I cried, laughed, and smiled reading through their journey. I enjoyed every single moment.

Goes absolutely crazy. Often I get disappointed by romance novels but this had no right to go this hard . As someone who usually reads heavier books , I found this joyful, enjoyable and meaningful in a way a lot of romances struggle to achieve! Incredible
