Oh my god, that was so achingly lovely & tender & wise. I LOVED Gene so so much — his optimism was incredible. The way he navigates the complexities of wanting things in life spoke to me deeply. Luis was a wonderful companion, & the way he navigated coming to terms with who he is & what he wants was just as warm & poignant. The writing in this was amazing — Hoffman really got that push & pull between his characters down beautifully, & the slow burn was so effective & delicious. There was also SUCH incredible poignancy woven in throughout. My only minor complaints — the baseball jargon was a LOT, especially in the beginning, & I really wish we’d gotten Luis’s pov. An incredible, memorable debut!
