I really enjoyed this! The pacing flagged a bit for me at times, and there were times I wasn't sure where we were in the overall arc of the story, but the characters are compelling and I love mutual caretaking that doesn't veer into codependency. I also love that this really celebrates Gene's career triumphs while navigating a mutual happily-ever-after for these two.

Gene refers to himself in third person-took a lot of getting used to. To be fair, it is in the author’s not at the beginning that this is how it’s done for them. So, readers need to adjust, adjust I did.
Gene-AFAB trans man was an anxious bubble of optimism that didn’t let himself reach for what he wanted.
Luis-gay man was an anxiety riddled man who faced his anxiety by letting it rule his life until Gene.
Together these two balance each other out and let them want for themselves. It was a heartwarming story about their progress thought relationship messes. Oh, and there’s baseball, a BFF and his husband, and an emotional support animal.
