This is a lovely story but I would say more suited to 4-8 year olds as my almost 3 year old lost interest quickly (apart from the bit where the thief is chased by the busker who ends up in hospital! Had to re read that page like 10 times!) will be putting it away for a while but I'm sure he will love it when he's a bit bigger

This year I didn't get chocolate advent calendars for my kids I went with a book advent calendar and this book was the one for December 9th.
I just read this with my five year old son and two year old daughter.
A nice rhythm and musical inclination make this a good read aloud story.
All questions answered by my son (Nicholas).
Do you like this book?
Nicholas said "yes"
What do you think of the cover?
Nicholas said "Cool"
Do you want me to read it again?
Nicholas said "Yes"

Story was fine overall, but I like JD's other books better, the stories that include a good lesson.
A lovely story of a man and his cat who, after being separated and always missing each other, are reunited. Tabby McTat finds a new family but always thinks of his old owner until he goes on an adventure to find him. This would be a nice story to share with FS and KS1 children. There are lots of opportunities for prediction in the book. The illustrations show lots of emotion and would be good to discuss with children. They could pick characters, either the main ones or background ones, and role play to explore their thoughts further. The text is written in rhyme which makes it flow nicely and makes it engaging for children.

Great book. Explores different ideas about friendship and family. I sang this to my toddler instead of reading and she started requesting it by name at bedtime.
My son has had this book for over two years now and is still a favourite. When he first received it, this was his bedtime story for over 6 months. A very popular story in our house...we know it off by heart!
