the foundation of the story and the characters seemed a bit weak to me. It felt like a second or third book and i was totally missing out on the other characters whenever they have a cameo. The plot was nothing special and i kept waiting for something to tug me back to the story but i was truly bored most times. The feelings that this story triggered were the fmc’s problems with her parents and their meddling. I felt like a lot of ppl wouldve found that very relatable. The part where she didnt tell her bestfriend abt the truth tho was definitely disappointing and idk if its bc of my friendship trauma but i truly felt like her reasoning was valid. Shes been there for her thru thick and thin and she didnt even have an ounce of guilt to tell her the truth. The mmc telling her sister that she was out of line was sooo annoying. Irked me so much bc she had all the right to be hurt. It was ok enough for me to maintain the 3 stars. It wasnt all bad

Seven of Hearts- Maggie Gates
Narrated by Nikki Gray and Alex Knox

I adored this book. It was very beautifully written. It definitely made me want to go back and read Maggie’s back list, especially Logan’s family. I definitely went into it thinking there was going to be some catastrophic heartbreaking event at some point in the story, but it’s actually pretty fairly low conflict. Logan and Leah both have their own issues with their parents they go through, but to me it’s very mild, but I could see if you have parental issues as a trigger, you may need to take caution when reading.
The dual narration by Nikki and Alex was fantastic. They played a fabulous Logan and Leah.

I really liked the MMC & FMC and their story. But there was way too much focus on the side characters to call this book a standalone. If you’ve read the poker series already then this would probably feel like a fun reunion. But having not read the series the amount of focus on everyone else took away from the main characters/plot
