Book Review…The Undead Truth of Us by Britney S. Lewis

Sixteen-year-old Zharie Young is absolutely certain her mother morphed into a zombie before her untimely death, but she can't seem to figure out why. Why did her mother die? Then Bo moves into her apartment building, Z wants nothing to do with him, but when he transforms into a half zombie right before her eyes, she can't help but wonder if getting to know him might unlock the answers to her mother's death.

The Undead Truth of Us is a unique story about love, grief and allowing that grief to take over! It's a coming of age story with a great romance, a little bit of horror and some amazing imagination! Britney Lewis is an amazing storyteller! Zharie is a great character and the growth her character went through was emotional but wonderful! The romance between Zharie and Bo is real and raw! There are some serious moments that will have you in tears and some that will have you laughing out loud and then there are some moments that are absolutely beautiful! Yes there's a deep look into the grief of losing someone you love but also love, adventure, finding yourself and so much more! This really was a wonderful read! Thank you Rockstar Book Tours and Britney Lewis for sharing this absolutely beautiful story with me!

I wanted real zombies and less John Green type of writing. No one does John Green like John Green. I was SUPPOSED to love this book because of a bunch of my favorite things being mentioned like Looking for Alaska, Starry Night, sunflowers, The Used, A Walk to Remember, etc. But I was so bored a lot of the time, and I couldn't stand all the constant metaphors. I also felt no chemistry between the characters and it was super insta-lovey. Loved the ending but overall highly disappointed in this 5-star prediction /:

This was suchhhh a great book!!!! The story was so powerful and I definitely cried multiple times!! The middle and ending especially just had such beautiful descriptions and word choice and it made it so fun to read!!

Zharie and Bo had such a good dynamic and I loved following along with their journey! I also really, really loved the Van Gogh and painting aspects of this book, especially how Britney used paint colors and painting styles when describing anything about the physical world! It was such a cool touch and really fit the vibes of the story!!

This was a really moving contemporary, and although the pacing was pretty slow, it was the good slow where you just sit back and enjoy the journey. I just loved the mix of informal conversations and dialogue mixed with the gorgeous, lyrical prose used for descriptions and scenes!! The beach scene at the very end just made me absolutely lose it - so, so well written and powerful, definitely the highlight of the book for me!!

Britney, you’re such a talented author and I absolutely cannot wait to read whatever you write next!!

*THIS IS NOT A HORROR BOOK* Getting into this is was grabbed by the word zombie. After reading the synopsis I was ready to sink my teeth into some spooky shit. Nah this not that. This is a story of love and heartbreak. So if you looking for something scary, spooky, creepy…keep it moving. This ain’t that
