This was probably a 4.75-rounded-up, but I still really enjoyed this book.
Lana Harper's writing does it for me I guess. I just find it enjoyable and entertaining.
The MC was a bit annoying and immature, but for the most part, she does grow, mature, and learn from her mistakes as the book goes on. Though I found the MC from Payback also annoying and immature in the last one, I think that's just her MC type. Does make sense a character does have to grow and change as a story progresses. Just this time Issa was a bit more frustrated than Emmy had been.
I can't see any MOC calling his family a clan, more likely they would say kin. Especially if the family they are talking about is located in the South. I mostly hear people from that part of the US use the word kin when talking about their loved ones.
The romance was a bit up and down, but for the most part enjoyable, a bit of an enemy to lovers. Did like the banter between them a great deal, how they cracked jokes back and forth. But once again I do think Issa's immaturity did hinder it a bit and Rowan acts a bit standoffish. Though things heat up and start to heal between them.
This book did have a really well-written passage about a panic attack that I really appreciated and enjoyed. How it showed how mental health issues can show up when we least want or need them to. It talks about mental health as a positive way to be addressed and worked on, instead of turning it into a negative thing to be shamed and hidden away.
It was fun to be in Thistle Grove again, once again I wish it was a real place that I could go and visit. It reminds me of a mix of Practical Magic and Hocus Pocus vibes. I do wonder why the witches lose the magic once away from the town since they came from other places before they settle in Thistle Grove. I wonder if that's just because Harper wants to keep people centered in the town for the series.
Overall still, really enjoy this series and am excited to read the next book.
