I picked this up thinking it was a thriller. it is not. domestic dramas are really not my cup of tea but I kept reading. it read slow to me especially since I had expected a thriller. it would have been 3 stars but I really really hated ~the twist~.
Just barely 3.
This book started out more exciting than how it ended
SUMMARY: Liz and Jess met in prenatal classes and became friends. Liz always admired Jess because motherhood came easy to her and she was always so put together and perfect (that friend). The two lost some of their closeness when Jess had a third baby and Liz went back to work as a doctor with growing kids...
One night a baby is brought into the hospital and it’s Jess’s baby daughter. Upon examination of the infant, Dr Liz notices a head injury. Jess’s story also seems off, but Liz keeps thinking about how well she knows Jess and what a good mother she is. Eventually she does the right thing, follows protocol, and the police/social services are brought in to investigate what actually happened to the baby. This “case” also makes Liz see what happened in her childhood differently.

I'm not sure if I would've clicked with this book more if I was a mother but I just couldn't get into it. I did not care about the characters much and didn't find it particularly thrilling or mysterious. I didn't predict the twist at the end, so that helps boost this book to a 3 star rating for me.
I was drawn in by the author and intrigued to listen to an audiobook with so many narrators.
The narrators work well and helps keep the different POV come across clearly and considering I found this book to be so much longer than really needed, quite long winded or big sections with nothing really happening. A little repetitive, maybe just to cover the different characters but unnecessary.
Thriller, this book is not, drama, women’s fiction is more like it. The subject is one that has to mean something to you otherwise it would make for a difficult maybe even impossible read to complete, I could relate to the drama and the characters and I still found myself zoning out as it dragged on or was repeating sections of the story about what had happened.
This is a thought provoking subject and I wish I had found it to be better written to make it more engaging

I applaud Vaughan for tackling post partum depression and anxiety. The thoughts and emotions are raw and pull on my heartstrings. What mother doesn't feel a sense of guilt and anxiousness over their kids? But sometimes those emotions can become so overwhelming and engulf everything. Isolation occurs and the vicious cycle and that inner voice can get so critical and toxic. Professional help is really needed and a good friend or spouse to recognize the warning signs.
This book is not really a thriller, but it is a fast paced compelling read. (There is a "twist" at the end which is why maybe this book was labeled as a thriller?) Told in many POVs there are three main mothering struggles shared throughout the arch story of who could have possibly harmed little Besty. The ending is satisfying and ends on a note of hope.
Overall a good read. Some language. The audio narration was well done.

3 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved Sarah Vaughan's first book, Anatomy of a Scandal. This book was good, but a little slow and tedious.

Audio. Not a fun topic - baby is injured, Mom blamed, police involved, friendships fractured. Also, mental health and child neglect. It's a lot, but somehow, the author handles it sensitively and lays it out at a decent pace, revealing info later in the story to shed some light on some further involvements.
“Little Disasters” is a twisty tale of motherhood, friendship, jealousy and keeping up appearances. But it also delves deeper into the issues of post-natal depression and how women cope (or don’t). I loved “Anatomy of a Scandal” and so I was very much looking forward to this one as well, and it did not disappoint.
