I love this book!!! I never knew how strong Harriet was!!

I wanted more! I wasn’t able to access the supplementary materials through OverDrive or Libby, so that was a bummer, too. I learned a little more about Harriet Tubman, though, and for that, I am grateful.
hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

so informational and inspiring. a must read!!

What an amazing life. I am ashamed to say that I had never heard her name before I read this book and was completly unaware of her story and heritage (I don't remember the American Civil war ever been included in our curriculum in France). The book reads like a fiction and not an autobiography and is therefore ideal for those who dont know much about the topic or for children.

What an amazing book, one that needs to be read by every American at least. Harriet Tubman was a hero that deserved far more than she was given. She saved and advocated for so many lives and lived her entire life in the pursuit of freedom for everyone. I did not know all of the many things Tubman had accomplished in her life, like many I was only briefly taught that she was a hero of the underground railroad, but she was also so much more than that. She did not deserve any of the hardships she had to endure, even at the hands of the people/causes she was helping (helping the union army and Lincoln), and yet she never backed down, she gritted her teeth and continued through everything. She deserves to be on our 20 dollar bill. Harriet Tubman is one of the greatest heroes of humanity.

Harriet Tubman herself deserves all the stars, but the writing of this biography wasn't my style. The repetition of a number of facts was a bit grating, and despite the shortness of the book, it seemed like there were a lot of filler sentences. There was a plenty of good information here, which I enjoyed, but for me, so many of the facts just led to more questions. When did this anecdote happen? How did she get the resources to make this journey? How did she manage to stay safe traveling through Northern and Southern states even after the Fugitive Slave Act? Wait, what do you mean her niece's husband secretly bid on said niece to free her, then smuggled her 90 miles away…all while the auctioneer was at lunch? How does that work, and what was Harriet's part in that rescue? etc., etc. This is a fine introduction to the life of an absolutely amazing woman, but I'll look for a more thorough and focused biography in the future.

Biographies of historical figures tend to be dry and boring. The title of this book had me hoping it would bring a more modern storytelling style which could bring some life to her story. It started off describing one of Tubman's more badass moments, but quickly turned into a standard history book. It was fine. I was just hoping for more.

Harriet Tubman is inspiring. Everything she's done to free her people and her family, to fight slavery in late 19th century America as well as the fight for basic civil (and women) rights can simply not be underrepresented. It is a crime. Her name needs to be taught, her plight not glorified but represented. Her story as with many other people black inspiring women should never be erased, but continuously highlighted and understood.

The figure of Harriet Tubman herself is amazing, and I encourage everyone to read at least one book about her in their lifetime and learn about her life. But, that being said, I have read much better books about Tubman, and this one in particular didn't bring me anything new. This would be a great introduction, but I wouldn't really recommend it to people already familiar.
