I enjoyed getting to know more about Four's character, specifically as an initiate and what he went through (meeting Amar, Zeke, and Shauna as well as battling against Eric).

The Initiate didn’t excite me as much as Free Four did, but nonetheless it was good. In this book, of course I learned more about Four, but some information, which honestly I don’t care about, was given about secondary characters like Eric, Zeke, etc.

Without further ado, here’s what I learned about Four: (contains some spoilers)

Four’s old habits include pushing through pain, chewing his thumbnail, and holding his fork in his left hand instead of the right. Strangely enough, learning this made me want to re-watch Divergent to see if any of these mannerism made it into the movie. They make Four seem so normal and average.

He gets his first tattoo as a dare while drunk. He gets a tattoo of flames on his rib cage.

This book contains the infamous fight between Four and Eric. Surprisingly, Four’s win is more emotionally driven than it is strategic.

Four learned about computers from school because he used to volunteer in the computer lab. Aww he’s a nerd too.

Four thought he saw his mother alive long before they met in Insurgent. Makes you wonder how long she’s been keeping tabs on him.

After being consistently disappointed by this series, I was surprised by how much I liked this installment--good things come to those who wait? There were once again plot issues (sort of a signature of the Divergent series by this point), but the insight in and development of Four here was quite good, and this captured a bit of the Dauntless charm that was in the first book which had been quickly overrun by Dauntless stupidity that dominated later books. Four is overall a more empathetic individual than Tris, and so his thoughts on other factions were also more enlightening and less juvenile.

Ew povero Amar. Ma devo dire che per il resto di questo libro non mi è importato molto. Pensavo la Roth avrebbe approfondito di più Four con questi "libri" su di lui, invece mi sembra che per ora Four sia molto più piatto di come era nei libri della saga di Divergent.

I was really excited to be reading a book from Tobias's point of view. I love all four stories.

I really like these short stories. They give an interesting outlook into who Tobias is, and what he does throughout the series.
