Thoughts on the book:

- really entertaining to read
- felt like watching a car crash —> I couldn’t look sway
- really repetitive at times but then again this girl has a serious problem
- I liked the character development
- the movie is LOOSELY based on this book

Overall, the book is well written and I can see why there’s a second book. It makes me want to buy it not gonna lie. There’s a small sub plot of romance and it’s funny how this girl just avoids her freaking bills.

« Well, what was I supposed to think? There he was, there I was—and make no mistake, if his mind was saying no, his body was certainly saying yes, yes, yes. So, being a modern girl, I reached for his trouser zip and began to pull it down. When he reached down and brushed me aside I thought he was playing games, and carried on, even more enthusiastically.
Thinking back, perhaps it took me longer than it should have to guess that he wasn’t playing ball, so to speak. In fact, he actually had to punch me in the face to get me off him—although he was very apologetic about it afterward.
Suze is gazing at me incredulously. Then she breaks into gurgles of laughter.
« He had to fight you off? Bex, you man-eater!”
“Don’t!” I protest, half laughing, half embarrassed. “He was really sweet about it. He asked, was I prepared to wait for him?”
“And you said, not bloody likely!”
“Sort of.” I look away.
In fact, carried away with the moment, I seem to remember issuing him a bit of a challenge. “Resist me now if you can, James,” I recall saying in a husky voice, gazing at him with what I thought were limpid, sexual eyes. “But you’ll be knocking at my door within the week. »

One of the least likable characters I remember reading.

This shopping obsessed, debt-riddled narrator is a twisted and hilarious counterpoint to the shopping obsessed, murderous narrator of American Psycho.

I liked this one. It was entertaining. I don't think I will read the whole series but this one was enjoyable. I could definitely relate.

I can't even get through this book - it's terrible! I can't even come close to feeling any sort of empathy for the main character and her little trips outside of living within her means are not the least bit as hilarious as the author thinks they are. I think it's time to take this one back to Half Price Books. Thank God I got it on the dollar shelf on 20% off day.

I do love Sophie Kinsella and I'm working backwards from her latest to her earliest works. The Shpaholic series was what put her on the map and I was curious about it and yet, feeling like "Are you really going to read that? Isn't there something more intelligent you could be reading?" ha ha, there sure is but I needed super light reading. I have to say, I didn't really LOVE the story or the character, Becky Bloomwood but she was funny alright. The shopping addiction is real, and can be a dangerous territory for any woman living in a big city - I guess I protect myself by not doing that at least ;). But our character's flaw was annoying: Lying and lying and lying some more. It's hard to have sympathy. I nearly put the book down a few times but then I finished it. The romance with Brandon felt blasé. But the laughs with her move to LA made up for it. All in all, I am definitely NOT going to read the rest of the series. Yes I mean it. And I'm not even sure I recommend it, but alas, it was Kinsella and I love her. Even though you can really tell that she has truly honed her craft with each later work, and I have MUCH respect for the author!
