Couldn’t put it down. Full of quirky humor, but it also does a great job capturing the shame and double thinking of an addict as she tries again and again to stop her compulsive spending.
Graphic: Addiction
Minor: Stalking
This book is like watching a train wreck. You want to slap the crap out of Becky but you can't help but like her and keep reading!

Sophie Kinsella is known to create hilarious stories. Confessions of a Shopaholic is no different. You get to laugh a lot right from the first page till the end. The only drawback here is that the story feels slightly dragged through the middle. The series of emails and letters from creditors gets repetative and boring at a point of time.
Also there appears to be a lot of characters in the story and gets slightly confusing towards the end. You are forced to go back a bit to understand who the current guy in line is.
But the story overall is well. There are no language issues and is easy to understand. The humor is chic and gels well with the story.
Good enough that you want more of Sophie to go through.

Book 1 of Lockdown:
Bit wild rereading this after 8ish years - but quick, easy, and very successful in getting my mind off the exponential descent into madness our world is going into.

I usually avoid chick-lit and mass published paperbacks like the plague. But I saw this cheap in a second hand bookstore once while bored, so I bought it. It surprised me!
It's a book that is far from perfect, and not all that well written. But the character, Becky, I found to be very entertaining. I love awkward humour and this book had it in spades. Admittedly, her over-the-top ditzy personality got too much sometimes, as did her silly rationalisations. Despite this, I really enjoyed the book and it's on my "go-to" list for easy, light reads.
If you have a problem with mediocre writing and awkward humour, stay away. But if you love these (or can at least deal with them), give it a go.

I thought this was going to be a fun light read. Then I realized I couldn't stand Rebecca. She lies without a care over the conciquences. I've had those friends, and people like that are toxic to those around them. I hate that this book glorifies her behavior. Still, some how, I found myself hoping for things to work out. All in all, I guess I liked it...despite myself.
