DNF 49%. Even listening to the audiobook at 3x speed could not deliver me the sweet escape of this book fast enough, so I must tap out. I was actually having nightmares about finishing this book due to its poor treatment of a serious addiction as if it’s a quirky trait to get yourself deeper and deeper in debt. Hehehe #justgirlythings ???
It’s absolutely wild to me that people found this book to be funny or ENJOYED watching the character dig herself deeper into debt/trouble and the anxiety inducing consequences that her addiction led her to, without any final resolution/accountability. I do genuinely think Sophie, whether intentionally or not, depicts realistic characteristics/mindset/beliefs of somebody with a shopping addiction, and the detrimental consequences of an addictive mindset on a person’s goals.
If it was like hehehe you know a girly journey where we witnessed her character growth throughout the novel, but nothing changes and it almost feels like the character exists for the author to torture or for a cringe induced awkwardness.
I feel like this book would make for a great video essay as I have so many questions to be answered:
🏦 How did this book grow to be so popular??
🏦 What resonated with so many women that made Sophie a household name?
🏦 Why is the idea of a shopping addiction almost a quirky relatable thing that never gets explored and continues to be a barrier/stereotype that keeps many women from exploring deeper into the world of finance?
🏦 If the shopping addiction was replaced with another addiction (e.g., food addiction, alcohol addiction, etc), and the ending featured a character who not only did not learn anything or confront herself throughout the entire book, but continued to be in active addiction and engaging in risky behaviours at the end of the book, would the readers find it as entertaining? But hey, I guess you got to squeeze the series for every penny.
🏦 Also the racial and class layers in this book?? Like let’s unpack that?
So so so many questions lol

GAH. So many people who have similar taste to me read these books for fun. Don't do it!!!!
The plot just seemed like a Bridget Jones rip off to me, except the main character was less likable. I will not be joining the shopaholic on any adventures in the future.

This was a very quick but fun read! A nice change from the usual thriller / gruesome murder I usually read. Was a tad brainless, but had me giggling throughout. Surprised I have not read this series already!

Sigh. Felt like I was reading an episode of "Sex and the City." Got it for $.99 on my Kindle, so at least I don't waste money like the protagonist. Should have been MUCH shorter. The intrepid heroine finally gets lucky in the end, but her situation was her own fault, and she didn't really seem to learn anything. I didn't like her enough to read the sequels. I hate books/films/etc that make my whole gender seem stereotypically shallow and materialistic.
Even though I just want to choke Becky at times, I love this book.
I had a tough time getting through this book. Every time the main character bought something or lied to someone I wanted to scream and perhaps hit her about the head with a bag of rocks. I mean, seriously, it was painful. I did enjoy the end of the book, almost with an intense sense of relief, like finally being able to use the washroom after holding your pee for hours on end.
Was it completely horrible? No. Maybe this book was painful because I think we all know someone like this, who ignores financial sense for the sake of how they look, or having 'stuff'.

I don't understand why so many people loved this book. Rebecca is not cute, she is a pathological liar. Nothing she said was the truth. I made the mistake of purchasing a couple of the other books in the series when I purchased this one and I don't intend on reading them.
