Ahh these characters got me attached to this story. Highly recommend
After almost ruining his sister relationship, Ash decides something needed to change. He walked away from his life of pushing everyone to achieve their dreams and goals to find his dreams and goals. The first step was moving as far away as possible. The second step was getting sober. Five months later, his sister's best friend, Taylor, shows up on his door step very pregnant and scared with no place to go. Ash being the good guy he is who is always taking of everyone he of course invites her to stay with him for as long as she needs to. The longer they spend time together the harder it is for them to deny the feelings that they have both been hiding for years.
This book is another one where I was pleasantly surprised by the book and gave me more than what I was expecting. Surprise baby tropes are one of my favorites so I snapped this one up real quick when I read the blurb. But this book was so much more than that. The title is Redemption so of course it was about Ash trying to work towards what he thought was his redemption, but it was also about him learning that to truly obtain that redemption he craved/needed then he would first need to forgive himself and allow others to forgive him. It was pretty amazing to watch his discovery and growth. With Taylor being raised is a such a devote Catholic home her outlook on life truly helped him to find his way. I have my issues with religion being in books that I read (my issue and my issue alone) but I feel that her beliefs truly helped Ash get to where he needed. Her compassion and acceptance (something her parents can't provide) really gave Ash the guidance and support that he needed. This book was my first by this author and I am excited to read more.

Ash is now rebuilding his life in Carmel Cove. Taylor shows up on his doorstep several months later pregnant just asking for a place to regroup herself. Both Taylor and Ash have issues in expressing their feelings and being open with each other. Though I really love how strong of a character Taylor is. Speaking from experience it is not easy to go up against your super religious parents.
Carmel Cove seems to be a very special town made up of very unique people who have formed their own family. At the head of that family is Larry, who has a lot of insight and wisdom to share with everyone. He seems to see what everyone's real issues are and guides them on the paths they need to be on.
What I did not expect was that that this book would touch me so deeply. I have been affected by the addiction of a loved one in my past and reading this book brought back a lot of old memories to the forefront of my mind. It also felt in a strange way a sort of cleansing for me. What a powerful thing for an author to be able to do for a reader.
I absolutely am very excited to read the next book in this series. I can already tell it's going to be one that I'm not going to miss.

Redemption totally suits the name of this book! Because it totally depicts that. Not only that, but also mistakes, perseverance, healing and most importantly love.
Ash was deep into a hole when he discovered his sister was dating his best friend and everything went downhill for him since then. But he realised that he needed help and he decided to move away from everything he has always known.
Now, a recovering alcoholic, Taylor was on his doorstep asking if he could help her. But she's pregnant.. He has always loved her and he would do anything for her even if it means he can't have her. One thing he doesn't know is Taylor's real reason why she's on his doorstep
My heart just burst with so many emotions and feelings while reading and for this book. there's not enough words I could use to describe how much I loved this book. But the author did it again with this one and I can't wait for Eli's book next year!
ARC was kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

Redemption lives up to it's name, but have tissues nearby. Such a beautifully written story about love after loss and tragedy. A powerful example of how everyone makes mistakes, it's what you make of it, that matters. Ash and Taylor are two very powerful characters that you won't soon forget, especially after they weave themselves into your heart!

This book was such an incredible read, it was so powerful and completely captivated me. Ash is the perfect love interest, he’s a recovering alcoholic and has made many mistakes that he’s not proud of, but the things he does to atone for that behaviour and the man he becomes are truly amazing, his story to redemption and his relationship with Taylor is beautiful. All the characters, even the minor ones, have a depth that I have no doubt will lead to lots more Carmel Cove stories. It was very clear that the author had a very personal connection to the story, at first I thought she might have been an addiction specialist but at the end of the book you understand the deep connection she has to the underlining plot and I applaud her for how she’s turned her personal heartache into such an incredible tribute.

Redemption is an angsty read that goes out of its way to tug at readers' heartstrings. The author mentions in her note afterward that at least one major character and plot point is based on a real life person and experience, which makes those parts even more poignant (honestly, I did not see that coming--which was pretty much the point, of course--though she does give us clues that something is going on with that person). It's a story of second chances, starting over, and, of course redemption.
I liked both Ash and Taylor, though I wasn't a fan of all of the secrets. For two people actively hiding at least one big thing from the other person, they each got pretty bent out of shape when they found out that the other one had a secret as well--pot, meet kettle? Honestly, neither one of them ended up voluntarily confessing their own secrets, so it didn't seem like either of them really had a leg to stand on in that argument. I would have liked a lot more honesty from them both--hopefully they will have it going forward.
Their romance was both sweet and steamy (TBH, I started skipping some of the steamy bits because there were just. So. Many), though the timing of the story felt a bit uneven, dragging at times and going along rather quickly at others. Taylor was 5 months pregnant when she showed up, but the epilogue was three months after the events of the rest of the book. Surely the book's events took more than a month to occur? It felt like more than a month, and I seem to recall weeks being skipped internally as well, though perhaps my recollection is off. Either way, time in the book seemed a little wonky.
Redemption was my first book from this author, and the first in a new series based in small town Carmel, California. It is related to another standalone by the author ([b:Reputation|40493667|Reputation|Rebecca Sharp|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1529923419l/40493667._SY75_.jpg|62805022]--Taylor is Blake's best friend, and Ash is her brother and Zach's best friend), but you don't have to have read it to understand this one. Given how Ash apparently acted in the other book, he might also have to "redeem" himself with its readers as well... ;)
The next book in this series sounds interesting, but we didn't really get to know the two characters involved all that well (or at all, in the case of the heroine who we hear about but never meet) and since this book felt longer than it needed to be, the jury is still out on whether or not I'll be picking that one up or not. This one was firmly in the "I liked it, BUT..." category.

I didn't expect to be gifted with a book about Ash. Once I'd seen his monster temper in Reputation and how he came around, seeking forgiveness, I thought that was that. However, now I know that there was so much more to this man. While he was busy making everyone's dreams come true, his sister and his best friend, his own hopes for himself got lost. So lost that he tried to fill the hole left behind with booze. So much booze that he became a functional alcoholic, equipped with a short temper and some severe paranoia. After hurting those he loved most, he decided he needed to put distance between them and his downward spiral. His quest for redemption led him to the small town of Carmel Cove, a place, according to the author, of open-heartedness, charity, and perseverance.
Taylor was such a kind and caring character. After helping Ash in one of his hours of need, she took something for herself. After adoring him for years, when she knew her affections were reciprocated, she gave in. Their one moment of intimacy created a blessing, one Ash had no clue about when he decided to leave and find himself. Raised in an extremely pious home, her Catholic upbringing branded her a sinner. Refusing to live under the judgmental eyes of her family and their friends, she seeks out Ash, for succor and to tell him about their baby. However, when he welcomes her with open arms and an open heart, she keeps to her own counsel. She tells him nothing. While they fall deeper in love than either of them expected, she keeps him in the dark.
Taylor broke my heart. As much as I loved her, I sat in judgment of her. I abhor secrets and hers was one that wasn't even hers to keep. Ash wasn't abusive. He wasn't a killer, thief, or negative influence. He may not be perfect, but he was so incredibly worthy and he deserved to know. So yeah, my only hangup with this book was the fact that she kept her mouth shut. Angst for no reason really grinds my gears. Otherwise, Redemption was an amazing read about love and forgiveness, a story I'm happy to recommend.

The water of my sins had swallowed me whole, but it was her touch that pulled me gasping from the depths. And even though I was still drenched in the consequences of my past choices, I could breathe again. I could break free from my watery grave.
I could redeem myself.

I realized that the strongest emotion I'd felt in the middle of all this tragedy was love. Because in the midst of utter destruction, it's the only thing worth fighting through it for.
