Not the genre I usually go to, but this was recommended and I’m trying to be more open to different genres.
I am glad I gave it a try.
Right from the beginning I kept thinking “This reads too… I don’t even know but it can’t be real.” To the point I actually double checked to make sure it wasn’t a fiction book. But in 2 days I was about 25% done. I don’t have much time to read AND I read kinda slow.
After a few chapters I started having a hard time reading. It seemed like a lot was being repeated. Not that it was bad, just my ability to stay focused was being tested.
But then, things start to change and I couldn’t seem to put the book down. Every chance I had I was reading.
In all honesty, his story fascinated me. I have soooo many thoughts on this book. I think the thing that hit me the most was the glimpse into the mind of the loved one who was a criminal and spent time in jail, the loved one lost to h. How it felt to be that person. And then the full circle of him finally understanding the mind and feels of the loved ones watching their child go through these things.
In short. Give it a read. It’s worth it. His message is clear.

I really enjoyed this one! I knew very little about Danny Trejo before reading this book, but his story is so interesting. There are so many people mentioned in this book and so many side stories shared that I sometimes found myself confused, but I was still able to follow along. There is a lot of swearing, talk of drug use, prison experiences, assaults, molestations, infidelity, drinking, violence, etc but that was all expected just from the title. I really loved the overall message of God's hand being in the small details of our lives and the examples that Danny wrote about. A very beautiful story of redemption. Highly recommend!

What a story. What a life. This was so interesting and captivating.
The only struggle is that he isn't a good reader, but it wouldn't have been the same without him reading it. If you can get over that, it is a fantastic Memior. I listed at a higher speed, which made it easier.
The 1st half was like watching the jail shows on tv
The nostalgia of jail is so interesting
'The shanks of my day were better' 😆
The 2nd half slowed down a bit, but it was still interesting, especially if you've watched any of his movies.
'Nick Cage was cool as hell though' 😅
Also, don't skip the epilogue and what comes after. Those stories are also amazing.
This was super entertaining.
