One of the best memoirs I have ever read. Pilsner wait to get back into it whenever I had a spare moment.
Wow! Now before I get into this, I will say, this book definitely does not hold back on language and the lifestyle Trejo grew up in gangs, crime and machismo mentally. The book is written like Danny talking to you so if You're looking for the best writing this is not it. What it is, is a brutally honest retelling of a man who was set up at a young age to get caught up in drug's, crime and prison and turn his life around after his last time at prison in 1968 at the age of 25. He has a lot to still workout, but being sober and helping other's was his mission from that point on. Even when becoming an actor, every location he filmed at he finds a halfway home to talk to the youth who are heading down a rough path. A huge takeaway from this book is that he believes in God fearlessly and to me this is almost a testimony. His epilogue is read and mixed with prayer and then with a story from actor Donal Logue who Danny becomes his sponsor while filming Raindeer Games and Logue also helped with writing this book with Trejo. You see beyond the rough life and scary roles he's played a man who loves his family and wants to help his fellow humans especially those who are struggling.
Some of the stories were really interesting, particularly his take on the portrayal of Mexican prison gangs. Some of it dragged out, and his narration was painfully slow.

Danny Trejo is an incredible human. He has been through so much and his book is so open and honest. I laughed and cried and laughed more! Some of his stories had me in tears laughing so hard. “By the power of Grayskull….!” HIGHLY recommend this book and listening to Danny read it is a must!!
After reading this book, I truly believe this man is the definition of perseverance. His commitment to helping others is absolutely inspiring.
I appreciate Danny for sharing his story about the reality of drugs and addiction. I wish him and his family all the happiness in the world.
