This is an amazing story. Make sure you have tissues because Danny is going to make you cry a few times. It may be my favorite book of the year. Definitely my favorite non-fiction book.

An incredible story from start to finish, harrowing, upsetting, hopeful and beautiful. Trejo has lived a life and then some and so has his family and those around him. Stories from his times in prison, addiction and stardom to his families struggles with him, their own addiction and overcoming the obstacles. Phenomenal.

I already loved Danny Trejo, as he is a staple in the Latino community. But listening to him read his book gave me such a new found respect for him. He had such a hard life, and he owns up to the decisions he made and his past. I honestly believe he was truly blessed— and there aren’t too many people like that walking around. He is such a generous, kind, humble and badass person, and his work with rehab patients is admirable and commendable. He is a true icon and I think it’s about time I introduce him to my kids.
