I was sooooo bored by this sequel. After falling in love with the first book I expected the same exciting twists and turns that kept me coming back in the first book, but they weren’t there. I felt the sequel to be an entirely unnecessary piece of the story and that a few chapters could have been tacked on to book 1 and I would’ve been far happier with the outcome. The storyline jumps rapidly from quest to quest just for Ren to do what she was always inevitably going to do. Truly a disappointing sequel.

This book was as lyrical and gory as the first one, but my memory faded because I read it 4 years ago. I have also read a lot more now, so this rating is a bit more realistic than my first. It was still super easy and quick to read, the action keeping you in the story. However, the ending was lackluster to me and I really wanted it to go differently in many different ways, and I saw one of the plot twists coming from the first foreshadowing of it. None of it was surprising or earth shattering, but I still had a fairly good experience reading it.

I love this world and these characters. There's this mix of darkness and hope that I appreciate. Not a fan of the romance in this one though.
