Penelope and Colin are the regency romance version of Monica and Chandler from Friends.

Oh, I am in love with this book. I need to get this book because I want to share with you guys with a short funny conversation!!! I will be right back, soon!!
I love Penelope and Colin. I love how he falls for her mind before her beauty. I would have preferred that Penelope remain more curvy like in the show. The “ugly duckling” storyline isn't really my thing. She is gorgeous regardless of her size, and I dislike the narrative that she needs to lose weight to find love. That being said this is still an excellent book. I love the witty banter, and playfulness of Penelope and Colin.
For me is another case of the book is better. It doesn't change how much I absolutely adore the show though. I'm just really enjoying the friendships and relationships in the books over the show. 🤷♀️

Passable but tbh, boring. To be fair to the book, this is the first in the series that I am reading, and I'm only reading it because I'm waiting for Series 3 of the TV show, and the TV show has already spoiled me for a lot of what were probably exciting reveals in this book when it first came out.
What a disappointing read.
I had been warned by other reviewers about the journey of this book being miserable, however I had hoped that at the very least I would end up enjoying Colin and Penelope's character development in some way, but alas that wasn't what happened. Both of these character's motivations are so basic and uninteresting that when they try to resolve this huge Whistledown conflict you really don't care what happens. Penelope was published by accident, Colin is whiny and jealous of her writing talent, etc. and this is all the book is about. Sometime in the plot they fall in love but I really never fell for any of it. Everything was forced, and unfortunately because they were so absent in the other books there was no anticipation and the very little build up we had in this book was a mess that I didn't care for at all. I sincerely hope that the show does way more with these characters, as they've already established them as something way more interesting than they'll ever be in this novel. Penelope as a badass writer who wants to throw society's expectations right in their face, and Colin as the cinnamon roll of a human that he is getting his wholesome love story.
