Finished it and immediately want to listen again. This has been on my list for a long time, curious to check out more of Rule’s work.

Ann Rule is not great at voicing audiobooks but this was nevertheless absolutely fascinating

I haven't read much true crime and this seemed like a must read if I'm jumping in the genre (In Cold Blood is coming soon!). I'm giving Stranger Beside Me fours stars, but that's ignoring the very repetitious additions of prologues, epilogs and afterwards. Overall, I liked Rule's writing and covering of Ted Bundy. Yes, I was angry with her most of the book for crushing so hard on Ted and not coming to terms with reality much sooner. However, the story is fascinating and I did love journeying back to the 70's with VW bugs, landlines, lots of cigarette smoking, stamps and brown hair parted in the middle.

Here’s another example of a book that sounded better than I found it to be. I was under the impression I was getting a story about Ted Bundy but instead it was a close examination of the author’s relationship to Ted Bundy. Now, don’t get me wrong, was it ooky spooky in some parts? Yes. Was I intrigued by the writing and the story? Yes. But did I find myself completely engaged and wanting to keep reading? No. A great nonfiction novel for anyone interested in a completely different perspective about the notorious serial killer.
