Good plot
Firstly I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It was brilliant as all Helen Fields' books are, it gripped me from the beginning and spat me out at the end. At times some parts were difficult to read due to the subject matter, but I think that is because you become so involved with the characters that you don't want to read about bad things that may happen to them. I will as always be recommending this book to everyone I know.

I love the "Perfect" Ave & Callanagh series by Helen Fields. I think if I could delve into the mind of any author, or ever had the opportunity to interview them Helen Fields would be high on my list! This book was truly horrific, the research must have taken her into some really dark places because it was just twisted! Hunger Games eat your heart out! I will admit though this is a really hard hitting psychological crime drama that is not for the feint hearted. I did have to put the book down at stages to walk away from the descriptive scenes of rape and torture, I didn't think Fields could go much darker than the second novel and I was a little horrified to find she could!
The relationship between Luc and Ava is frustrating and beautiful and raw and has me screaming at the pair of them, and I love the way Fields uses Natasha to almost articulate what you are thinking to the pair of them. I also really love Lively as a character, he has certainly grown on me over the series and I hope he develops his relationship in the next book with Elenuta.
I did kind of work out some of what was happening by half way but that ever detracted from the horror or desire to keep turning the pages. I definitely think you need to read the books in order to truly understand the characters and how they develop over the series however. there are only a few references to the previous novels so you definitely could read it as as standalone if you really wanted to.
I highly recommend this whole series and Helen certainly hasn't disappointed me in the latest installment. i was up half the night reading this book in one sitting, a must for anyone who loves modern, gory, psychotic crime thrillers! I'd like to thank Netgalley for the ADR copy of the 6th installment and am already on the look out for the 7th.

I have read all 6 in last couple of weeks... have really enjoyed all so so much and given full 5 stars for all BUT THIS ONE... this one still was fab with the backstory of Luc, Ava, Tash ... as well as all in MIT; however I felt that the goings on in Edinburgh in this book was gruesome to the extreme and not necessary; as if wanting to see how far the author could go and shock readers. Some chapters were certainly unpleasant reading and the detail not required I think.... but maybe some like such detail... but having enjoyed the previous 5 I didn't expect horror/graphic detail. Dont get me wrong... I enjoyed the book overall and as usual there were two parallel running mysteries to solve... and a back story... but one of the mysteries was (I think) more gruesome than normal from HF... and if I had wanted that I would have gone for a Horror Book. Let's home the next book in 2021 (FEB) is back to being similar to the first 5. QED!! H
Bart Campbell was drugged and kidnapped. He does not yet know his fate but knows his chances of being found are slim. DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanagh are working on separate cases that soon collide. Some victims are being transported to France in exchange for women who are being trafficked into Scotland. With so many lives at stake their is no option for failure.
This was my first book in this series. While it was easy to follow the characters back stories, I feel like I missed so much by not reading the other books first. This being said, I loved the characters in this book. Ava and Luc are easily relateable and you always have to love potentially missed opportunities at love. I enjoyed this book and will have to go back and read the rest in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
