Cherine reminds me of Addie LaRue in that she is a young French woman who yearns for more than what her life as a French peasant can offer her, but instead of a deal with The Darkness, she wakes up one morning to Vikings raiding her town. She is "saved" by Erik, who is discontent with his life of raiding and yearns to go home to Norway, yet finds himself enchanted by Cherine. He wants to keep her for himself, but his "best friend" and leader, Rolf, decides he also wants Cherine, and unfortunately becomes a big problem for both Erik and Cherine.
This is a short, dark and moderate to high spicy read. Cherine has a relationship with both Erik and Rolf (not really Erik and Cherine's choice) and Rolf SUCKS. He's just awful. I did enjoy the daring escape at the end and the happy ending, even if it was a bit fantastical.
