'Deep Dark Fears' by Fran Krause is a collection of comics based on the imagined fears of the author and some of his readers.
The 101 fears in this book represent are presented in a charmingly gruesome fashion. From falling through the ice and drifting away from where you fell in, to being cut in half by elevators. A lot of fears are passed on from adults to children, like the fear that your guts will fall out if you play with your belly button. According to this book, adults can be jerks sometimes.
These are the kinds of irrational fears that people can have. I confess to having had a few of these or variants. Seeing them illustrated like this makes them ludcirous and kind of funny. I like the art used for the comics with it's normal people and mostly gruesome endings.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Ten Speed Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Creepy revelations along with simple watercolor illustrations. Right up my morbid alley.
A wonderful collection of comics about the oddities of human fear. Great for fans of Jeff Brown.

estuvo cool, algunas son cosas que yo me imagino, y otras, que no me imaginaba pero que ahora se van a sumar a mi lista :/
I remember once seeing these Deep Dark Fears comic strips in a 9gag post or on another similar website and being totally intrigued. When requesting this book from NetGalley, I hoped it was the same illustrator and was thrilled to see I was right.
Fran Krause brings the weirdest phobias of people around the world to life in these comic strips that are absolutely fascinating to read. While some of them seem far fetched, others I found I could relate to, so you probably will find some of yours in there too.
Halfway through, I started being afraid I was going to walk away from this read with a few more phobias, but luckily it wasn't the case for me (thank God for the cute style of the drawings). While some of the fears are utterly creepy, others made me laugh and the book was very entertaining. Definitely something I would like to reread sometime in the future, for the fun factor.

I recommend this to anyone who can enjoy something like this, and if you are not sure yet, check out the artist's Tumblr page to see whether you might be in for it. :)

A wonderfully delightful book despite the subject matter! The artwork is incredibly versatile and really accentuates the scenarios it conveys.
Deep Dark Fears contains 101 fear scenarios from the outrageously bizarre (# 12, 23, 57, 67) to the sinister and disturbing (# 11, 41, 78, 88) to the poignant and heartfelt (# 15, 24, 32, 62, 74).
Reading this book has made me aware of how universal fear is and how it can manifest in myriad ways. I was very glad to discover that I am not the only person who has a fear about mirrors and reflections (# 17, 59, 64), about getting old (#61 and 72) and the inevitability of death (#38, 43, 56, 82).
Fran Krause has created a deeply humane read highlighting some of our irrational fears - a thought-provoking gem of a book.

3.5 stars...this is a very cute concept of a book! I loved the author's interpretation of some people's fears and how he chose to illustrate them. Definitely got some chuckles out of it!
