I read this for a club read. Definitely not something that I would usually go to.  I did enjoy the plot, but it seemed slower than what I used like. I do like Agatha Christie's writing, but I prefer her Hercule Poirot series.

Shocked at the killer. I got thrown off by red herrings. Dame Agatha, you clever thing

A Miss Marple Mystery Alternate title "What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw"

I still have no clue who Lucy Eyelesbarrow is supposed to marry... :)
(Or why she should marry anyone, for that matter?)

I decided to finally read Agatha Christie when I saw a local bookstore was reading this book. It is a Miss Marple mystery and I got both the audiobook and the ebook from the library. The audiobook was read by a very familiar actress, Joan HIckson, who plays the role on the PBS (BBC) series.

I did enjoy the first two-thirds or so of the book. However, when the crime-solving became earnest, things went downhill for me. Christie, at least in this novel, does not provide clues that help the reader determine who is guilty. Instead, the ending reveals the killer in a way that comes totally out of left field. In the past, I scorned Agatha Christie as the writer of books where people say "oops1 there's a body in the closet." And acting like it was inconvenient rather than tragic. I suppose that is the appeal for some readers.

I will stick to Christie on PBS as I do enjoy the settings and recreation of mid-20th century England.

This story was an excellent whodunit with plenty of questionable characters and women of strength. Lots of times you were guessing if it might be this one or that one, but it never really ended up being that person at all. I have always loved Miss Marple and I must say that Lucy has become another favorite of mine.
