Mrs Elspeth McGillicuddy is travelling on the 4:50 from Paddington when she witnesses a murder on a train travelling adjacent to her own. A woman being strangled, but she only sees the back of the killer, a tall dark man. No murder is however reported and no body found. Was she mistaken in what she saw? She is visiting her friend Miss Jane Marple and tells her all about it. Miss Marple enlists the help of Lucy Eyelesbarrow to assist her and we are soon engrossed in the mystery.
I have to say that once I started reading this I had a remembrance of what happened and I also remembered watching it on the TV with Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple, so I think for that reason I read it very quickly. There is not very much of Miss Marple in this one really and she seems to just pull the killers identity out of the bag right at the end without explaining what evidence she has for her conclusion. As ever its the characterisations that make it, well observed and their dialogue is exactly how you imagine people of that class and time to be.

I honestly just love any Miss Marple stories and this one didn't disappoint.
Szokásos stílusú krimi Agatha Christie-től. Vicces karakterek, párbeszédek, régimódi komótos nyomozás. A végéig rejtélyes volt, nem találtam ki ki volt a gyilkos. Tetszett, jó könyv.

Surprisingly good for a 1950s era one. Did not figure out who did it AT ALL but I am a little annoyed that the usual romance plot was left hanging.
