Rating is mostly due to amount of smut in this book. I'm an avid smut reader. I love it. And with a book that is about a porn star I definitely expected more smut. I recall maybe 3 scenes. The plot was good and I would give it a 5 stars, it really did hook me, but my rating comes from the expectations I had going into it. I loved the book. The scene where they watched each other??!! I don't think I've ever flushed that much while reading smut. It was some of the hottest shit I've read. But I feel like after that the length, quality, and frequency of smut went gradually down. I would have definitely liked more and for the smut that was there to be more graphic. However this is coming from someone who mostly just reads smut. Very good book for smut newbies!!

I did not enjoy this book very much:
- I found all of the characters boring.
- I did not like the dynamic between Josh and Clara. I wanted to reach through the book and deck Josh every time he tried to make Clara feel small because she comes from a privileged family.
- Everything was super cliche.
- This book is more judgmental than sex positive. It would be nice if authors could allow their fmc to be more conservative and traditional without making them an uptight prude while having the “slutty” side characters make fun of her lack of experience, and write the fmc like the adult she is supposed to be and not an immature teenager.
ok sooo...i am giving The Roommate by Rosie Danan 2.5 out of 5 stars. i will admit the last third-ish maybe a little bit more was better than the rest of the book. maybe it was because josh and clara's relationship began to pick up a little bit more but even then, it just kinda felt meh. the rest of my review will be talking about specific--and probably spoilery--scenes in the book that i highlighted while reading so CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

"damn clara has some ~slight~ control issues. i mean seriously a six page document that is laminated...."
right at the very beginning, i found clara, the MC, to be VERY annoying. don't get me wrong i understand that everyone can be tightly wound sometimes and not everyone has the chance to be care free and not have to give a damn about the consequences of their actions but OH. MY. GOD. the girl has a laminated checklist. and not even of things that she may forget to bring or any of the normal things someone moving across country would need to remember. the six page document i believe consists of issues and concerns clara needs to look for in her new place that may violate the codes of L.A. properties...girl, get a grip please. i know these kinds of things can be importany but we don't need the checklist and we sure as hell don't need any laminating. thank god she left her machine back home.
-page 57 "i’m starting to like josh more. he’s pretty funny"
in the very beginning, there was something about josh that i just really didn't like. he came across as forgettable and idk...entitled. that's not the right word at all but idk what else to use. maybe it'll come to me. however, as we got to learn a little bit more about clara and the stick up her ass, josh became a welcoming thought and i actually started to enjoy how he was around clara. he opened her up and gave her somehwhat--and i say this lightly--of a personality.
-also page 57: clara is 27, has a phd, has had sex with mutiple! men and still can hardly say the words "oral sex"...i can understand someone being uncomfortable talking about sex and everything that comes with it but clara, it will be ok. part of me wants to give her a hug. and part of me wants to scream WHAT ARE YOU DOING! also, she has this air about her that she thinks she is better than everyone else but then has a tendency to self-deprecate a lot. pick a struggle.
-page 121 "Pruitt is d i s g u s t i n g"
yup i stand by what i said. he's a self serving, despicable bastard and i hate him. one of the good things about this book was that he was taken down in the end. more on that later.
page 128 "i’m sorry but Clara is so confusing. how can you be that much of a control freak and not having anything out of place but then get turned on when your roommate goes to while his buttery, greasy, dirty ass popcorn hands on your throw pillow....make it make sense."
i'm sorry, WHAT? still confused about this one. no other comments i don't want to think about it.
page 133 “iF OnLy HiS aTtrACtIoN DidN’t ExtENd tO ThE eNtIRe fEMalE hALf oF tHe pOpULaTiOn” ok clara.
maybe i read this wrong, but if i'm not mistaken, i think clara forgot that there are women in this world that are not attracted to josh, or even the ~male~ specimen. pls correct me if i'm wrong bc writing this out makes me feel stupid and oblivious the more that i think about it.
page 199 "this is by far one of the dumbest things i’ve ever seen a MC do... ASK JOSH. CALL A CAB. SOMETHING OTHER THAN THIS"
when clara stole josh's car, i knew i hated her and there was no going back. ok she redeemed herself a little when she was able to walk away from dumb everett--i got so tired of reading this loser's name #sorrynotsorry. but when this happened, AND THEN SHE CRASHED IT!!! i think i did the biggest eye roll known to man. i get terrible second hand embarrassment from legitimately everything so this was really hard for me to read. but alas, i got through it.
page 223 "can we forget about stupid boring everett please? i know i’m not about to read this whole book just for him to come back from his little band trip and have clara confess her feelings for nothing..."
good lord. if i have to think about this man anymore i think i might lose it. clara wasted so much of her life--not even her TIME, her LIFE--on this guy who wouldn't even give her the time of day and it took her moving all the across the country and then for him to leave her at his doorstep for the while summer, and then even MORE after that to finally that hey, maybe he's not the one clara...
page 227 "i don’t think having sex with someone you like is more crazy than moving across the country for someone who doesn’t even love you; or more crazy than stealing someone’s car then crashing it; or more crazy than starting a sex ed website... but maybe that’s just me

Really started off with so much promise! Felt like half way through it kind of petered out and turned into a standard hetero monogamous romance plot and none of the interesting issues at the beginning were really fleshed out.
Side plot of prosecutor campaign was lame and unnecessary.
3 stars for effort and some hot stuff!

Loved it. The set-up with the trust fund girl going to LA to move in with her forever crush, only to get ditched by him and moving in with a (hunky) stranger. Yes, please. And his job.
Well, this is steamy. Be warned. And leave with a smile on your face.

The female character annoyed me, she had a lack of personality. The male character at least was very different from what we usually find in romance books, but kinda judged the female character because she was sheltered/innocent, while he was very sexual.
The "hot" scene I read was a huge turn off, very cringe, since they basically didn't even know each other and had no connection, but he offers to give her an orgasm and she accepts. It was really weird how they approached it and how they behaved afterwards. I preferred if the book didn't have that scene in the beginning.
