Not sure why this book has such mid ratings because I thought it was lowkey great?? The Roommate is fun, flirty, and also surprisingly thoughtful. Like yes, the setup is very rom-com (Clara moves across the country and ends up living with a guy who turns out to be a porn star), but it’s not just spice and shenanigans. There’s a ton of heart here.
Clara is your typical type-A, people-pleasing academic with major repressed vibes, and Josh is a total sweetheart with emotional depth and actual goals. Their chemistry is great, the tension builds nicely, and the way the book handles sex work? Loved it. It’s honest, respectful, and unafraid to have real conversations about shame, autonomy, and pleasure.
Tbh, I think some people just aren’t ready for a rom-com that’s this open about sex work, but that’s a them problem. I thought it was handled really well, fun and feminist in the same breath. 💅🏼
Only small critique: the ending tied up a little too perfectly, and I wanted a bit more mess when it came to Clara’s family stuff. But overall? A really solid, unique romance with way more emotional depth than I expected going in.

We love sex positivity and communication! A fun and easy romance read with a lot of layers of consensual discussion in the bedroom. Exactly the kind of thing I want to see in modern romance novels.

Me encantó muchísimo. Nunca pensé que me iba a gustar tanto una estrella porno, o un "intérprete ". Pero es excelente, siento que es muy bueno para la destigmatizacion con relación a las personas que trabajan en el ámbito sexual, aunque no sea un libro que tal vez busque una gran ruptura en la sociedad, es muy bueno para sacar prejuicios en cuanto a las razones de las personas para hacer lo que hacen.
Josh te amo, aunque te las mandes una y mil veces que me dan ganas de patearte. Clara, me frustraba pero al mismo tiempo me era imposible no entenderla, así que la amo.
