A fun and whimsical read as an adult, but I did find it hard to follow along with this on audiobook and found myself lost multiple times.

I first read PT in grade school. I think I got it at a book fair. I read it again one summer break in HS. It was a much better book at that point. I cannot believe I waited so many years to read it again. The clever word play still holds up and it is still a funny read.

First time readers of The Phantom Tollbooth should reach for an edition without the annotations. The annotations are fascinating and will distract you from Juster's story, dulling its effect.

I re-read this a few years ago when I was tutoring part-time and I am still surprised by the clever and ironic writing. Instead of writing 'on the level' of his intended audience, Juster puts faith that they want to learn and teaches them with a great story.
