The Phantom Tollbooth read by Dwight (Rainn Wilson) was everything I dreamed it would be. There was one minor character for whom I thought "Nope, that is NOT what he sounds like," but other than that I loved every last minute of this, and it's short enough (just shy of 5 hours on normal speed) that I will probably revisit it on occasion.

I picked it up again on audio as the author has recently passed away. I loved it as a child but found it a little tedious as an adult. I got more out of his obituary that talked about his career as an architect who enjoyed a good pun. Those themes clearly came through in this story.

Loved the word plays and puns and general joyfulness of this journey that Milo takes past the phantom tollbooth. And enjoyed the illustrations too.
Milo is a little boy who is always bored. All that changes when he finds a large box in his room containing a magical tollbooth. Soon he is on his way to adventures in other lands. He learns that he must rescue the two princesses, Rhyme and Reason, to return order to this world.
Fans of Alice in Wonderland will find many similarities in this tale of stepping into a nonsense world. Juster’s puns also are reminiscent of Lewis Carroll’s style.
