A good follow up to the Narnia books. The allegory is easy to spot, but is so clever I liked it anyway.

Pure Delight!
How can it be that I’m almost 70 and had never heard of this book before? Don’t let it happen to you! Every page is a gift, at any age. Give yourself this gift-you’ll come back to it again and again.

This was one of my very favorite books as a child, and I am so glad to find that it has stood the test of time and is just as wonderful all these many years later.
The Phantom Tollbooth is the story of a kid called Milo who is just bored with life. I'll let the author explain:
"When he was in school he longed to be out, and when he was out he longed to be in. On the way he thought about coming home, and coming home he thought about going. Wherever he was he wished he were somewhere else, and when he got there he wondered why he'd bothered. Nothing really interested him—least of all the things that should have."

It's The Phantom Tollbooth, so it's already great, and then it's read by Rainn Wilson, so it's also fabulous on audio.
