Liked:
  • the world building and the story building around the central tension of the series: a rebellion forming
  • learning more about how the rebellion operates and key players in it
  • the writing of the fighting scenes was pretty intense and descriptive, i could picture it pretty well
  • the way lizzie and maeve complement each other so well, soft and hard, gracious and ruthless - and in the end they both take on a little of the other
  • the magic and other-worldness that’s built in is really interesting
  • i like the character building of how we learn more of their backstory and internal struggles - and how their ties to family motivate them to behave in very different ways
  • the inclusion of many different kinds of people and the diversity of gender identities being completely normalized is really refreshing

harder parts to stick around for:
  • mainly just how much the two have internal thoughts like “oh my god i like her so much, but this is only temporary and there’s nO wAy she could like me enough to stick around” - like once or twice, i get it, it’s a valid concern and fear, but after what felt like thirty times? 😭 i’m over it
  • they fell for each other really fast, really fast. like the span of a few weeks i think???? and it went from “wow you’re hot i want to bang you” to “i have intense strong feelings for you” in the blink of an eye - felt more insta love-y than the first book
  • this book kind of talks about it, but the way they described evelyn and lizzie’s relationship and why it didn’t work out fell really short for me. wasn’t fulfilling

i’m still going to read the third book - im looking forward to learning more about the world!!

This one was okay. The first one was a bit more exciting compared to this one. The plot did move you forward but nothing was really memorable and the spice wasn't as spicy as I expected from Katee Roberts.

As usual with Katee Robert, I had a great time with this sweet and salty romance. I don't know which one I love the most Lizzie or Maeve, but why choose?

I can't wait for the 3rd book <3 <3 <3
