Sorry to the first couple in this series but I would follow Lizzie the vampire and Maeve the selkie off a cliff, what a couple of badasses. Lizzie fell into the world of the Cŵn Annwn in the first book while chasing Evelyn, and she fascinated me then. Here, she gets what she deserves: a sunshine selkie whose skin has been stolen to Lizzie's grumpy self. The two of them have to find Maeve's skin and then relocate and re-acquire Lizzie's stolen famiy jewels, conceivably so Lizzie can return home without getting murdered. But instead, there's pirates, hot sapphic scenes, and a grump of a vampire becoming a total simp for a selkie. This was fantastic and I had so much fun.

The world building was neat and fairly easy to understand and the relationship/intimacy was great. I also enjoyed the fact that the grumpy x sunshine trope made sense. My only problem was the fact that there were only maybe two scenes that actually grabbed my attention and I ended up loosing interest at about 75-80% through the book. I definitely recommend for people who want fantasy with some plot and lots of spice and tension.
2.5 stars; i was expecting a continuation of the first book’s narrators and story. their arc had definitely not finished at the end of the last book. but this book picked up with two new narrators and barely mentioned the previous two. this book by itself was fine, but it was a major disappointment to me that it didn’t continue the narrators from the first one.
seriously did not enjoy that the vampire girlfriend nearly kills the selkie girlfriend at one point! like, that is not okay! another one of these cases e the author loses control of the metaphor.
It's hard to put a finger on why I don't love these books. It has lots of exciting magical creatures and sailing ships, but something about the romances seems to be falling short. I LOVE the idea of Lizzie and Maeve, but there felt like a bit of a gap from the cutesy angst in the beginning, to suddenly being crazy in love. I needed that relationship to build more.
I also feel like there needs to be more world building, more excitement? I dont' quite know, I just leave these books feeling like I wanted more.
Thank you to the publisher for providing a copy of the book.
