This small and simple short story with Celaena staying in a port town before heading off to the Red Desert to train with the Silent Assassin's. I liked how it was simply nothing more than her fuming over the upcoming punishment, and ending up helping a young woman, Yrene Towers, who wants to be a healer. It was really nice to also see Celaena lighten up a tiny bit and help Yrene learn to defend herself AND give her the money needed to get to Antica and attend the healing academy there.
adventurous
dark
funny
slow-paced
The second novella in "The Assassin's Blade," and it was... definitely less enthralling than the first one. It was interesting to see someone who contrasts Celaena like Yrene does. The story was too short for me to really care about anything that happened, but if it had been longer it would've been really boring. Overall, it was just alright.
This was almost too short to get a lot done. Enjoyable, but unremarkable. I think I might just skip forward to book 3 before completing the short stories/
This one was just okay. Basically finished just because it was super short, and wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything in this series. Probably the least favorite of the novellas.
A tiny glimpse into an episode in Celaena's life. The meeting between an assassin after she's been beaten as a punishment for disobeying her master and the healer who's stuck in a shitty down with no way to get out.
I suppose this further develops Celaena's character as an assassin with a heart, since she saves and then trains Yrene to defend herself, and then leaves her money to get the hell out of dodge.
Interesting and well written, but I question why this story was necessary, unless we get to meet Yrene sometime in the future books? If so, this story should have been released closer to the reunion.

This is short so it didn’t have the opportunity to be all the things I love about Sarah’s books (surprise, Easter eggs). I really enjoyed learning more about Celena’s past. Throne of Glass portrays her to be a ruthless killer who is annoyed by Elena’s presence but you see in this book that she cares for those who want to make the world a better place.
I am assuming that the healer becomes important at a later point in time, but this novella was just okay. I loved the badass FMC energy that was happening, but I didn't feel like it added much to Celaena's story.
The only thing that I did get out of this novella was that maybe Celaena is a healer? But other than that it was just her training the healer and honestly this barely held my attention. It felt like it was taking sooooooooooo long to get to the point. I was almost at the point where I was ready to put the book down and quit on the series because I was that bored.
I'm sure if the healer is important later I will appreciate this novella, but right now that's not the case.

Short and sweet. Not much happened but an interesting addition to the story. Liked the character of Yrene. Would like to see her again in the series if possibly.
