I really really enjoy the major themes and plots of this series!!! It blends ancestral grief and generational trauma with the fantasy elements really well and while some of the King Arthur and knights of the round table stuff goes over my head a bit, it still feels really original.

I know sometimes folks don't like when their fantasy leans into romance but tbh that yearning shit fuels me and I'm also just a sucker for common YA romance tropes and this had quite a few lol. Had me giggling and kicking my feet a few times. Because it is YA I do sometimes struggle with the writing style and execution of it, but overall I truly do love this series and I'm excited for what comes next.

Tracy Deonn. Legendborn Cycle. How I love you!

After some contemplation and serious internal debate, I’m afraid I have to say this is more like a 3.5 rounded up. But I have such confidence in this series that I’m willing to take a leap of faith here.

Although this read felt like more of the same—people aren’t who we thought they were, Bree continues to endure one thing after another, the responsibilities these kids face are too great to bear—I still feel like the foundation is being laid for yet another epic story. I only wish said foundation didn’t take over 650 pages. After the action-packed, hard-hitting adventures of the last two books, I think this one might be suffering from the Curse of a Middle Book in a Fantasy Series—a curse many of us know all too well.

Fortunately, Deonn’s addictive writing style and talent for character development kept me going. I often find switching perspectives and timelines to be a bit overwhelming, but I never once felt that way in this one! And that’s notable, considering absolute barrage of plotlines presented to us.

If I had been able to stay up until 3am gorging myself on this one, like I did for the previous two, I may have some different things to say. Alas, I remain hopeful that Bree and company will deliver a grand comeback whenever Miss Deonn decides to grace us with the 4th installment!

I don’t like Bri mweh, I think this is the last book of this series that I am reading.
(Also, here I was thinking it would be the last book in the legend born cycle period, and then that ending? it’s like the author is really trying to create shocking plot twists but it’s just as important to know when to end, this should have been it.)

The ending of this book is clearly not the end; the author has stated that while she intended to write a trilogy it will now be a four book series.

I was really hoping to be done this series. While I liked it initially, it has gotten to be too much for me. Too many characters, too many different plot elements, and too many changes to the world building. I usually have a good grasp on a world after the first book, but this series just keeps adding and adding, making it work to keep up with it. The other problem is that it doesn’t always explain the new elements it brings into the story. The characters are alright, but I found a lot of their actions questionable.

I’ll read the last book to complete the series.
