It has been a hot minute since I've read a book by Kristy Bromberg, and I could not have found a more enjoyable way to dive back in than FLIRTING WITH 40. I'm not going to lie, this book is pure unadulterated pleasure, and I enjoyed every single page.
As a woman of a certain age, I identified with Blakely. Not only did her husband leave her for a younger woman, Blakely has had a hard time remembering that she is all of that and a bag of chips. For real, she's smart, savvy, beautiful, funny, and, yeah, she's almost reached the Big 4-o, but with maturity and her experience, she has seriously got so much to offer.
It takes a chance encounter in a bar with a very attractive and attentive man to kick off her journey back to herself, and what a way to go. Slade is my absolute favorite new book boyfriend. With plenty on his own plate, he jumps in to help Blakely see herself the way that he sees her, and regain the confidence to go for the things that she both wants and deserves in her life.
Kristy had me from the first page with this book, earning it a spot among my top favorite reads of this year. If a book grabs me by the heartstrings and won't let go, while still managing to be sassy and sexy, too, it's a keeper. FLIRTING WITH 40 is 4.5 stars of delightfulness, and a definite must-read for fans of contemporary romance with some angst thrown in. I could read books like this all day long, and if Kristy's writing them, I'm all in. Make a place on your TBR for this one, and enjoy. ❤️

Ok ok ok, I adore this book! Blakely and Slade had me from the very first chapter and I love them.
Blakely is trying to find herself throughout this book. She has just recently divorced her husband, and while I've never gotten divorced, I could see why her confidence had taken a blow and why she was constantly wondering why Slade even looked in her direction. I really enjoyed her character and I loved seeing her confidence and self-esteem grow!
Slade is perfection personified and if I ever met a "Slade" in real life, I would also be a Blakely, no matter my age lol.
Slade is unbelievably sweet, charming, smart, and thoughtful. As I said before, he is literal perfection! I fell in love with him immediately. He was so sweet and understanding with Blakely! I also loved that he had his own (external) problems to go through and how he handled all of that.
Blakely's conflict is the main plot of the story so, while I loved seeing Slade's, I'm really glad that his didn't overtake and add too much to it.
I love reverse age-gap and I've had so much trouble finding books that I actually like in this trope, so I'm so happy this one was 5 stars for me!

Kristi Bromberg has a way with words and characters. In Flirting with 40 the heroine is having a hard time at work. Her new boss has it in for her and her ex-husband has a new younger version of herself. When she stops in at a trendy bar for a drink and to acquaint herself with a younger crowd she meets a handsome younger man.
Blakely needs a boost of self-confidence and a second accidental meeting with Slade is just what it takes. She is the older one at work and can't believe that a younger man (she's 39 and he's 30) would be interested.
He helps her out when she needs to go on an office retreat and everyone is bringing someone. He goes along to help out and what starts out as a fake turns into the real thing as they fall in love and she gains her confidence back.

A lighthearted romance. Slade is very cute and swoon worthy however Blake's insecurities about the age gap felt annoying at times due to excessive repetitiveness and she felt somewhat immature for her age.
P.S: At the beginning of the book, I was picturing them as Liza & Josh from Younger. However, due to Blake's fixation on the age, they soon turned into Jessica & Mark from Love is Blind 😅
