Third time lucky- I finally finished this book. It’s dark, it’s spicy, and it’s violent, it talks explicitly about human trafficking, rape, child abuse, and torture. I learned to skim read young because all the libraries I had access to couldn’t keep up with my reading in age-appropriate reads that even remotely interested me. I’m good at skim reading. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have lasted the first 10%. But if you don’t mind the stuff that bothers me or are also good at skim reading, there’s interesting story and characters here.
I get that it’s a dark book. Within limits, I can handle torment from the POV of the victim. Multi page description of torture from the perspective of the perpetrator, even against some of the scum of the earth, is not something I want to read. I’d rather be beaten than see someone beaten, even if they harmed me first, so being in someone’s head while they mete out brutal punishment was a nope. I think maybe it was loosely modeled off deadpool sense of humour?

One star. I could not get through this book. I tried so hard but I could not get through more than a couple pages at a time. The writing was choppy and cheesy and the dialogue was not smooth. I just kept getting irritated with the language and it kept distracting me/pulling me out of the story. The plot had potential but the insta love and instant betrayal was not it for me.

I wanted to like it so bad 😭😭😭😭 good concept, but the writing left much to be desired for me, there were multiple instances where a character would say something that they shouldn’t know and weren’t told and just other little things that piled up to be too much for me
