It’s the early 1980’s and NASA is including some women in their training program. Joan gets a spot and we follow her finding her own self while in the program. I really enjoyed the characters and her development, there was sacrifice and love. It’s also nice to reflect on how far we have come in society since the 80’s, while also seeing how far we still have to go. This book had it all and even thought I am not a space nerd, I was able to follow along well. Really 4.5 stars only because I had trouble following at the beginning setup and characters, but a well developed story!

The audiobook was ♾️⭐
For like 10% of it I was gently weeping and then the last few chapters made me absolutely sob. This book had my heart swelling and breaking over and over.
Joan's relationship to Frances was central to the story but I do wonder why her and Barb's parents wereso hands off ? I guess if Barb kept up the facade with them they wouldn't question her going to boarding school but they didn't want to step in when Thanksgiving was cancelled ?
This book was also the best use of dual POV I've ever read, and the switches between past and present kept me listening.
