This was an interesting subject matter and I enjoyed the story. The ending had me captivated (although it was getting a bit corny). And I really liked having seen the Vanessa side of things in the beginning but then getting the back story from Joan. But ultimately I got a little bored as I do with many TJR books. I’m always waiting for something to happen and it doesn’t, it’s just a relationship playing out. This one is different in that we did know Vanessa was eventually going to be up in space with a big problem but I still thought the entire back story before that would be more…. Interesting. I don’t regret reading it but I’m adding it to the pile of slightly overhyped TJR books.

It took me a minute to get into but I think it’s bc I just finished a Kristin Hannah book. I was so happy she finally stood up to Barbara for being a shit parent. It broke my heart how she treated Frances. Honestly heartbroken about griff bc he was one if the good guys. I wonder if they shut the door if he would have still lived. Lydia’s character development was great. When Vanessa was telling Joan to tell Frances she was sorry and why she had to do it broke me.
I was actually shocked that Vanessa made it. I also wanted more…which is what made the ending good in the same
