Hands down, this is my FAVORITE read of the year.

This book has everything--highly researched space trivia to keep the nerd within me geeked out, a love story that fully satisfied the romantic in me, societal injustices that ignited my inner social warrior--my emotions were all over the place in the best way.

Taylor Jenkins Reid only gets better and better. This is probably her best piece of writing ever. She sets us up so masterfully, manipulating our emotions so easily with characters who feel (with emphasis) so real.

Joan's character arc is beautifully written. Reid alternates back and forth between the tragedy and Joan's formative years leading up to it, allowing us readers to watch Joan grow into the strong, capable, and resilient person--someone who can handle such a crisis. Reid also makes it easy for us to fall in love with all the characters orbiting Joan: Vanessa, Frances, Griff, Donna, Hank, etc. Every single person felt so real, so every single page returning to the disaster felt like a gut punch.

My only criticism is that the book made me cry so hard, my face is still recovering from it. Puffy eyes, blotchy skin... It was not a pretty sight.

Even better, I discovered that a movie adaptation is underway by one of my favorite production companies (Laika, I'm very biased being an Oregonian) and I absolutely cannot way to see this all played out on the big screen. I'll be the woman sobbing uncontrollably in the back of the theater.
