 BEAUTIFUL CONCLUSION.

I adored this series y’all. I shouldn’t be surprised. Brandon Sanderson can craft so many types of stories across age groups and genres and I am here for them all. I loved the lasting themes and messages and getting Bastille’s perspective turned out to be wonderful! I love her stabby personality and the way she and Alcatraz work together and provide support for each other.

There were some good turns in listening and the audio is seriously the way to go for this. Easy to fly through, always enjoyable and wrapped up everything I needed to feel satisfied with where things landed.

Overall audience notes:

Well, that’s it. The final Alcatraz book. Thank god it’s this one and not the previous one (Alcatraz, you should be ashamed for making people think the 5th book was the last one). Anyway, this was a much better conclusion to the series. It actually resolves things and gives us a worthwhile conclusion. It’s also the most mature one of the bunch.

Anyway, let’s talk about the humor first since this is primarily a comedy series. It’s… not the best. I mean, the book is amusing and witty but it’s not laugh-out-loud funny. Or maybe I’m just old. That’s also a possibility since this book is targeted towards 12-year-olds and I’m 20. But still, I feel like some other books in the series were funnier overall (and no, it’s not because Bastille is the narrator here… she’s actually a really good narrator and if I were a kid, I’d probably laugh a lot reading this). Honestly, my favorite joke in this entire novel was Bastille saying that police are there to stop lice. Other than that, nothing really stuck with me.

The characters are still the same and I liked the fact that we spent most of the book with just Bastille and Alcatraz. I feel like the previous books needed more of that. But admittedly, Alcatraz is a bit annoying here. He’s just so whiny and I want to join Bastille and punch him in the face. I hate self-pitying characters and I’m not going to budge just because it’s our normally arrogant boy Alcatraz. Bastille is cool though. I’ve always liked her as a character and I love how she’s really bad at acting tough.

The book is a bit rushed though. I mean, they defeat Biblioden in literally 2 seconds since he shows up. He at least deserved his evil speech before he was ultimately defeated by two kids. But I have to say that the way Alcatraz fixes talents is very creative and also a good lesson for kids. I support it very much.

I don’t have anything else to say. It’s a very average book, especially for great writer such as Sanderson. I know I’m not the target audience but then again, I found some of the previous books much more entertaining and I read them around 2 years ago which is not that far back. I’m giving this 3 stars. It’s not great, but at least I didn’t feel enraged after finishing it.

I definitely want my kids to read these books. It has been a while since I read the other books, so I forgot some of the running jokes, but not all of them. This book was funny, and had some jokes that were better suited for those who are well read, or at least understand the references.

I enjoyed the point of view from Bastille. She's a cool character and it provided more range to the story. It's a short book and it reads fast, but there are very good character arcs for Bastille and Alcatraz. I would reread the whole series one day just for their characters and for the jokes.

Fun fact, I received an advanced reading copy from a Goodreads giveaway.

Alacatriaz, both the character and book and series is a mixed bag. Moments of hilarity and moments a b it too juvenile for my taste. But a worthy conclusion to a fun series.

I won a copy of this book as part of a goodreads giveaway.

If you liked the first five Alcatraz books, this one won’t disappoint. It had all the sass, adventure, and fun from the other books with a new narrator—Bastille

Things I learned:

It turns out, police are the squad of librarians tasked with detecting and removing lice.

A sitting duck is a dodge performed while sitting

The Loch Ness monster is a Gak!

Overall, super cute and a lot of fun.

The ending of this book made me cry

And yes, that's true.

Seriously, I know this is middle-grade fiction, but the emotions are universal, and so are the life lessons.
