I love this book! It takes a realistic approach to grief and the stages that people go through and has a happy ending!
Loved this book. It's really about a woman dealing with grief after the loss of her fiancé whom she'd been with since she was 14 and thought she'd spend her life with. It's sad and joyful and about changing relationships and the person she becomes.
The idea of losing the love of your life is gut-wrenching and that is exactly how the author portrayed Lydia Bird's loss. This book gives you an interesting perspective of someone working through her grief and discovering that her identity has split in the wake of tragedy. Life before the accident and life after the accident. But the way that the author transforms the main characters are beautiful in a fantastical way. I can definitely see this book turned into a classic rom-com...think Serendipity.

Picked this up at a little free library in my neighborhood because I was into the concept, but ultimately this disappointed me. I hardly felt a personality from Lydia outside of her grief, and it felt too cliched and heavy on the morals at the end. I hate when books get preachy at me lol
This novel has stolen my heart with its incredible storyline. Lydia was so lucky. She has a charming fiancé, Freddie. Her best friend, Jonah. Her supportive mom and a caring sister. She has a happy life. She thought that her relationship with Freddie would be end together forever. But life has other plans. On her birthday, Freddie died in an accident. All her dreams vanished. How will she start over?
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird was like a roller coaster ride! You would smile then end up crying until the last pages. It was a light read. I loved how well written it is. The author managed to present the grief of the main characters. You will feel the emotions and how devastating it is. Also, it has a unique kind of trope - losing a significant other. I also love the connection between Lydia’s mother and sister. It was pure and genuine. The journey of Lydia’s loss is so heartbreaking to read, but as time goes by, you will love the transformation of Lydia.
My heart shatters into pieces. The book was worth reading. It was fast-paced but, every character has its depth. It was smart in how it creates a believable alternate life of Lydia. It was a beautiful story of love, grief, healing, and finding a reason to fight the battles of life. I highly recommend this.

I laughed, cried and cheered
What an amazing book. It was not what I expected. It was more - I cried and laughed with Lydia, I cheered as she started to live again. Not so much a coming of age book, but a coming of self. Working out within a relationship - what makes two work and what makes you work. Coming through the darkness and finding out what life is

I understand why some won’t enjoy this. It tends to be quite slow and not a great deal happens in terms of plot points. It’s a quiet little book about grief.
However. There is something about the style and feeling of this book that is so British that makes me feel at home instantly. The story is not wild but it made me hold my breath anyway, feeling desperately sad and the hope that begins to peek through the darkness.
This isn’t a romance. Not really. I liked how this book showed so many different types of relationships; familial, professional, romantic. The relationships with a few strangers were also beautiful.
I loved it. The only reason it isn’t a five star is the beginning didn’t grab me like the rest did.
4 stars.

I was so happy to receive this ARC through a Goodreads giveaway!
I was first introduced to Josie Silver through [b:One Day in December|38255337|One Day in December|Josie Silver|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1573862622l/38255337._SX50_.jpg|56132017] and it became one of my favorite books of the year. When I saw that she was coming out with a second book, I was so excited to read it.
This book tells the story of Lydia Bird, who loses her fiance Freddie on the night of her 28th birthday. Lydia is heartbroken but discovers another world where she and Freddie are still together. Alternating between a world with Freddie and a world without Freddie, this story tells the two-year story of Lydia's life following Freddie's death.
There were times that this book had me feeling heartbroken. Reading about Lydia's grief made my hear hurt and brought tears to my eyes. But one of the things that I enjoyed both about Silver's books are the positive portrayals of female relationships. Often times, I feel like there's animosity or conflict between the main female characters; there's one friend who is always in the shadow of the other or two sisters who love each other but are always competing or taking the other for granted. But in [b:One Day in December|38255337|One Day in December|Josie Silver|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1573862622l/38255337._SX50_.jpg|56132017] the relationship between best friends Laurie and Sarah was so positive that it was refreshing. Similarly, in this book, the relationship between sisters Lydia and Elle was one of the best that I've read about. They supported each other, cared for each other, and turned to each other when they needed them most.
Other than Elle, Lydia is surrounded by a wonderful cast of supporting characters including her work friends, her mom, and hers and Freddie's best friend, Jonah. At times very sad and at times heartwarming and positive, this book was complex but cute. I have enjoyed both of Josie Silvers books so far and I look forward to reading the next one!

This was a sweet book and a nice departure from the stuff I typically read. I picked this book up in hope of a good, cathartic cry, based on the recommendations of other reviewers. I didn't get that, but it was ok. I still enjoyed reading the book and the gentle touch with which Josie Silver handled her characters. It's weird when reading a book about loss and grief feels like a vacation from real life, but there you have it.
