The ending did make me grumpy. I didn’t want it to end like that but it was overall a lovely look at dealing with grief

Second read: 11/9 - DNF
Rereading this was a bit of a disappointment. I usually reread light fiction / romances that I've enjoyed before I decide whether to keep my copy or donate it. I keep books I still like for comfort reading. This one lost my interest on the second read, maybe because there isn't enough humor / charm to carry me through when I already know the plot twists? Bummer. Into the donate pile for someone else to enjoy!

Right book at the right time. I liked this one!

I read the first half, and skimmed the second. It's not great, but it's not bad.

I got this in BOTM. I am DNFing it after a decently committed attempt. I don’t like the lead character in either storyline. And the premise of living an alter life in dreamland seems forced and weird. It says a lot for someone like me to criticize, I love fantasy and suspend my disbelief rather readily. But this one wasn’t working for me.
Beautifully written and a wonderful take on what the grief process can be like. It really resonated with me and I couldn’t put it down.
This Book wasn’t what I was expecting it to be at all. For some reason I thought it was going to be a little funny but instead we get a lot of serious topics and a female lead that doesn’t want to deal with morning her husband (understandable, do any of us?). However, I don’t think we needed 400 and some odd pages of this.. it just drug on and on and at points k didn’t even understand what I was reading anymore. I do NOT think this book should have been nominated for best romance of 2020 it’s like 2% romance.
This book was good although it did take me quite a long time to read because I found the first 1/4 of the book kind of boring there weren’t very many parts where I felt myself needing to finish the book. The character development is blasé except with Freddie. Also their love is made out to be unending and unwavering and they don’t really give any good examples of that within the book.
Now to what I did like I like the progression of the book and how she navigates her loss. I think most people who have lost a loved one especially significant other can relate to Lydia’s actions and difficulty. I think he clinging onto the “asleep” life shares many parallels with substance abuse after loss. She seems to have a preference to the other “reality” until it doesn’t give her the joy it has been. She also grows as a person due to the loss and it changes their relationship dynamic in the other “reality.” Overall her actions and feeling feel authentic and the story feels pretty real, despite the unreal ability to switch between lives.
