Normally I love the Dexter books, but this one fell short of the mark. For some reason, the author felt compelled to suddenly turn Dexter into a normal person instead of the delightful sociopath he has been all along, and it completely ruined the book.

To the author of "Dexter's Final Cut," Jeff Lindsay, that is one hell of a cliffhanger!!

Not my favorite Dexter book, but still worth reading if you are doing the series.
I loved all the Dexter books but this one felt like it was written by a third-grader.
slow-paced
I'm feeling very conflicted with this book. The whole premise about Dexter getting involved in acting/with actors is absurd, but considering the crap Lindsay pulled for the third book, I'm kind of beyond caring at this point. I just want to know how the series ends.
A good point about the book is that Lindsay keeps you guessing about who the killer is throughout the whole novel.
Plus, Jackie died. I'm conflicted about that as well. Because on the one hand, I knew she was going to die. Lindsay has this way of offing characters who do bad things so they (and/or Dexter) doesn't have to be held responsible. Jackie is conveniently murdered so Rita technically never has to find out that an affair happened at all, and so that Dexter can go on living with Rita and the kids--because having him suddenly move off with a movie star is just so unbelievable compared to other things that have happened in the series! (-insert hysterical laughter here-). But on the other hand, I disliked the whole affair thing and Jackie enough that having her die kind of relieved me.
I shouldn't say he keeps you guessing throughout the whole novel. He gives you some pretty obvious choices to select from. It does waffle back and forth through them, which is probably the best out of all the Dexter books so far.

Dexter having an affair with Jackie pissed me off. Let me clarify--the fact that it happened and Dexter felt no qualms about it didn't bother me at all, because that's in line with sociopathic personality. But he displayed next to no interest in sex prior to Jackie and suddenly he became a humping machine with her. That bothered me. Jackie knew he had a wife and three kids, but her guilt over the affair was extremely brief. That bothered me--though I do concede that there are people out there who really just don't give a damn about being homewreckers. Deborah's reaction to Dexter's affair, however, had me applauding.Despite my mild dislike surrounding her as a written character because all the swearing and teeth "gnashing", she was the only one who seemed to have any realistic reaction to anything in the whole book.A good point about the book is that Lindsay keeps you guessing about who the killer is throughout the whole novel.

He doesn't bring someone in out of nowhere, and killing Patrick only halfway through the book leaves quite a gap for the reader to think "well what the hell?" For a while I was worried that the whole acting thing really was going to take up the rest of the book--a little too domestic for Dexter in my opinion. So in that way the ending was gratifying.Plus, Jackie died. I'm conflicted about that as well. Because on the one hand, I knew she was going to die. But in the last 20 pages it all comes rushing to a conclusion that is overrated and semi-redundant. While Dexter was oggling over Robert being gay, I had my suspicions about him being a pedophile. I put it out of my mind since it seemed to be stated that Rob was gay and it ended there, so I thought maybe Lindsay was serious. Turns out he wasn't, so I just let out a sigh of resignation and finished the last few pages. Astor was much less annoying in this book but her sudden behavior switch seemed out of place. And no, Mr. Lindsay, saying three different times that her father's abuse put her onto the path of darkness is not explanation enough for Astor to suddenly stab a guy to death and call him a stupid asshole when you write her as a grumpy fish the rest of the time.
Felt parts of it (mainly beggining ) was a bit slow but near the end it got alot more interesting and loved the ending , can't wait to read the next book!
